Today we’d like to introduce you to Bel De Oliveira, Mia Rio
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Aunt Bel’s started with me sharing with Mia my desire to start my own business while she was eating the primitive version of what is now known as our flagship product Cake Balls. I wanted to remain useful and valuable in the American marketplace, being an immigrant who is seeing her kids grow into their independent lives. Mia said, “Why don’t you sell this cake right here? It’s delicious!” Both of us had personal nostalgic connections to the type of cake we were eating and believed we could create products that promote togetherness and joy around comfort foods.
She encouraged me to get things started and came up with a different concept for the cake so it can stand out. I had already owned a food business in my home country, Brazil, and I love baking so I got excited about it all. We perfected the recipe, designed the packaging, a website, social media page and became partners.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It hasn’t been easy. We’ve faced many challenges, such as flavor and texture combinations, product storage and shipping methods. Then you have to develop relationships with distributors, resellers and more. There’s definitely a learning curve but you can’t allow yourself to be discouraged because you’ll always come to the solution.
We’ve been impressed with Aunt Bel’s, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Our greatest pride is serving products that are made with a lot of handmade love, that bring a warm fuzzy feeling to whoever eats them, that promote doing community and that are good quality. Our team puts a lot of dedication into what we do and there has been an immense amount of receptiveness from people of all walks of life when they get to know our products and share them with their friends and customers.
Alright so before we go can you talk to us a bit about how people can work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
Our company is new, only two months old but we’re already in 4 local shops, and counting. We would love to offer our products anywhere that cares about bringing life to people so we are looking for more resellers and are open to distribution partners. We foster love through love sharing.
