Check Out mikeflo Aka Michael Flowers Aka Masud Asante’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to mikeflo Aka Michael Flowers Aka Masud Asante

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Originally from Chicago, I came to ATL for college and have moved in and out of Atlanta as a working artist since then. I’m a global citizen.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The road has been relatively smooth. Raising two children (now adults) in Atlanta (or anywhere else) has its challenges, but overall the sailing has been pretty smooth. But now that I think about it more, I’m also a 22 yr cancer survivor (sarcoma / left shoulder). It seemed so long ago and so many blessings (including that diagnosis) have been bestowed upon me since then. I’m truly grateful and thankful to be thriving today and doing what I love. Asé

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a multidisciplinary artist. I am a recording artist, former “DJ” (now sound shaman), producer, musicologist, tour music director for dead prez, 1/2 of W2TL (Welcome To The Limit), abstract expressionist painter, retired school teacher, life coach, consultant, community servant, and free thought advocate. I specialize in creating provocative soundscapes and curating authentic and captivating vibes. I’m known for my courage to be my authentic self and presenting that to audiences of all walks of life. I’m most proud of my free and self determined children (now adults). What sets me apart from others is the fact that I can do what they do (if I decide to), yet either they can’t or don’t have the courage to do what I do.

Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
The best mentors are the elements around you in the natural world. The things in the human realm can be very confusing and contradictory. Listen to nature, the low and high tides, and follow the currents of the universe and its will for you. Submit to the power of it and surround yourself with people who see the importance of that as well.
