Rising Stars: Meet C West of Atlanta

Today we’d like to introduce you to C West

Hi C, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
In 2022 I was exposed to black mold and i became very sick due to that. I had severe eczema and rashes all over my body. It was hard to walk, clothe myself, get in and out the car etc. I was really hopeless and struggling each day. I began to pray and ask God for relief from all the pain I was in and he gave me the idea to start painting. I needed an outlet to relax and just take my mind off the pain and art became something that I truly enjoy.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The road has been both bumpy and beautiful. I faced a lot of discomfort and feelings of defeat. I remember being up one night struggling to want to continue on. I remember praying that night and asking God to heal me and rescue me from the pain. I’ll never forget what he told me that night. He said, “it’s gonna be ok”. In that moment I knew I was going to make it through the storm in was in.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m an abstract artist! My work is a visual diary that reveals what I believe lies beneath the surface of every individual. A child longing to be seen, heard, and loved. Whether we want to admit it or not, we all have brokenness, we all have pain, and we all long to be seen, heard, and loved by someone. And my hope is that wherever my art dwells, it brings hope and healing to those who encounter it. I’m also a singer-songwriter. I love to merge the these two worlds of art in a unique way by including lyrics from my music into my artwork. I think what sets me apart from other artists is that I perform original music at my art exhibitions which gives people a two for one experience that is unforgettable. I am most proud of the stories I get to hear after people encounter my art. I hear so many stories of healing and breakthrough and it’s a testament to the Goodness of God in my season of pain.

Have you learned any interesting or important lessons due to the Covid-19 Crisis?
Something that I learned during Covid-19 is that busy doesn’t mean effective. Covid really slowed things down for everyone allowing us to really sit and process things. I feel like we’re naturally always in a hurry and Covid was a reset for us all. I tried my best to spend that time really focusing on my relationship with God and my family.
