Today we’d like to introduce you to Sloan Sabbath
Hi Sloan , it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
My name is Sloan Sabbath and I was originally born in Sacramento, CA. Art is EVERYTHING to me. I’ve been drawing since pre-school and making comic books as well as trading cards since the 3rd Grade. After highschool ended I started writing and recording music. For a decade now I’ve been performing live music and vending my art at as many shows as I can find. I enjoy meeting new people across the country!
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Not even remotely smooth. I don’t do small, I don’t do easy. When it comes to comics and cartoons, I’m competing with Marvel and Disney. When it comes to music it’s Tupac and Kanye. There’s very few that have stood in any of the shoes I intend to fill. That being said; I currently work by myself, and I’m damn proud out how much I’ve accomplished on my own. At my lowest I’ve worked 5 jobs at once while still putting out my art, I’m never going to quit.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
My company is called OAZIS and our flagship title is called Nahreea Danger: Birth of a Goddess. I’m very passionate about creating new mythology for not only Black Americans but POC across the globe. I’ve created an extremely diverse and eclectic pantheon of characters. At the end of the day, I love my Black Goddesses and do a lot to represent every facet of them through my artwork!
Who else deserves credit in your story?
Although I tend to feel alone, and do work primarily by myself, I thoroughly enjoy collaborating with others. I greatly value the advice of my friends and family. I’ve always had this weird relationship with my teachers, we’re either legitimate friends or actual enemies it’s kind of hilarious. I have teachers from highschool and college that I talk to on a very consistent basis. My parents, however, are definitely my biggest supporters. I can be on the opposite side of the country and we’ll still talk every single day!
