Rising Stars: Meet Aser Jean

Today we’d like to introduce you to Aser Jean

Hi Aser, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
One of my first experiences with making music was on a hospital bed in 2017. I was diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis out of the blue. I began making beats to pass the time. Later on down the line once I recovered from that situation, I began engineering friends I knew who had a passion for music. I knew I also had the talent to step up in front of a mic, but my confidence just wasn’t there yet. With the help of my mentor Chavez Parker (Big Vezy) I finally mustered the courage to record my first track, with that one session, my snowball started forming into an avalanche. In 2023 after years of not seeing each other, I connected with Darren Lauture (MYO) we immediately found chemistry and created our first project together titled “Summer Sessions” an EP totaling 5 songs with an Afro/Creole twist. Fast forward to present day we are gearing up to drop our second project July of 2024 titled “Days Before Forever”.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The road on my creative journey has had its peaks and valleys. There has been days where I have been at an all time high where nothing could stop me in my path, there has also been days where I’ve felt like giving up for good. While describing his road to creative success, Nipsey Hustle described it as “going through every possible emotion” and I could’nt agree more with that statement. I appreciate the duality of both sides of the coin. Pain comes before purpose, and that purpose fuels my passion.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m an artist and photographer part of a creative collective known as ZoeBoys. We are a group of Haitian and Haitian American visionaries that strive to make an impact in our own creative ways, whether through the mediums of music, photography, animation, modeling or styling. We seek to make a difference while also holding firm to the principles of our culture and heritage. As far as what sets us apart, our upbringings have blessed us with a versatile experience. Being raised in a Haitian household but also being submerged into the American lifestyle, getting a birds eye view of two totally different perspectives. We take our points of view and pour it back into our art.

What makes you happy?
The freedom to create without boundaries. I find so much joy and peace within a recording session. There are zero limitations involved (unless they’re self imposed). You can do and say as you please as long as you have the courage and belief to stand by your art. Many times when I find myself in a creative slump, I like to invite other artists into a session for a fresh slate. Creation to me is on a spiritual level, so it’s always a joy to see what the god in others can create.
