Mayah Dyson, R&B artist hailing from Atlanta, GA, by way Woodbridge, Virginia, is a proud alumna of the esteemed Berklee
College of Music in Boston, Massachusetts. Mayah’s journey in the limelight began with a breakthrough on Kelly Rowland’s inaugural season of “Chasing Destiny” aired on BET. Her talent shone brightly as she graced the stage alongside Solange Knowles on NBC’s “Saturday Night Live” and most recently singing background vocals for the iconic R&B legend India Arie. Mayah also had the opportunity to be a part of Kanye West’s ‘Donda’ album. Mayah has had the privilege of opening for esteemed artists such as UK singer- songwriter Daley, reggae sensation Shaggy, R&B talents Kyle Dion, Arin Ray, and rapper Buddy. Mayah’s music can be found on all major streaming platforms.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. The biggest challenge I’ve faced as an independent artist is navigating the constant ups and downs, but I genuinely appreciate every step of my journey. While I’m excited about what the future holds, I also value where I am right now. I wouldn’t change any of my past experiences because they’ve shaped me into the person I am today. Following your dreams is never easy—it takes hard work, dedication, and the determination to keep going, especially when things get tough.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m an artist deeply committed to using my voice to inspire, heal, and liberate. My expertise spans songwriting, background vocals (both live and in the studio), entertaining, performing, and vocal arranging. I also hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Music Business and Performance.

While some might argue that formal education isn’t essential for a career in music, I believe it has given me a significant advantage. College allowed me to study the business side of the industry and hone my craft before diving in fully. Additionally, I’ve developed a distinct image and sound that truly set me apart from other artists.

I’ve also started curating my own R&B concerts called “It’s Happening”, along with another super talented artist named Jandé. “It’s Happening” is a live experience centered around celebrating and appreciating R&B music, featuring the sultry sounds of Atlanta based artists Mayah Dyson and Jandé. We created this beautiful space to keep ourselves motived as artists but also for other independent artists like ourselves to express themselves and showcase their artistry. We’ve had 4 sold out shows so far, I’m really excited about our success with the concerts and excited for the future of “It’s Happening”.

Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out?
Trust your journey and don’t compare your journey to any one else’s journey because what’s for you is for YOU!
