Hidden Gems: Meet Ebony Baker And Marissa Walker Black Travel Girls of Black Travel Girls

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ebony Baker And Marissa Walker Black Travel Girls

Hi Ebony Baker And Marissa Walker, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
In the year of 2014, our friendship developed in college over an intense game of hide and seek. As complete strangers we realized that to be triumphant our odds were better together. Since then our friendship has blossomed into not only best friends but business partners. Over a conversation during lockdown in 2020, we shared a vision to start a new business that became our beacon of hope during a time of uncertainty and isolation. This business would signify our journey as two women navigating through adulthood, seeing the world, and visualizing where our faith could take us.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
So far the biggest challenge we’ve faced is releasing the fear of pivoting which caused us to second guess our vision and God’s plan. As a result, we’ve learned to step outside the box and understand that building a brand isn’t linear and God’s timing is perfect. Becoming business owners has constantly challenged us to not lean on our own understanding.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Black Travel Girls seek to offer opportunities for Millennials and Gen Z. We’re a travel and lifestyle business that offers full scale trip advice, travel guidance, and itineraries to help black people embark on their own journeys and make travel a lifestyle.

Nothing sets us apart. Traveling is about community. Our goal is to educate, uplift, and inspire others to join.

We’re most proud of our personal journeys into womanhood, sisterhood, and becoming international travelers. Growing up traveling internationally was only a dream. Today, we’ve turned that dream into a reality and are passionate about encouraging more young black women to travel safely.

Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
