Today we’d like to introduce you to Meghavi Prasad
Hi Meghavi, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I was born and raised in India. After getting married, I moved to the USA with my husband, 12 years ago. After coming here and working briefly in an Indian Multinational Company, I had my firstborn in the year 2016. I was a new mom enjoying each moment with my baby. My world revolved around him and watching him grow and achieve each milestone was the biggest joy of my life. I was so engrossed in taking care of my little family of 3 that I had kind of forgotten about myself.
It was the year 2020, the year when COVID hit the world, it was my son’s 4th birthday when one of my closest friends Lavanya, encouraged me to start fashion blogging on Instagram. She was the one (and she still is the one) who never missed a chance to compliment me on my clothes and makeup. I had no clue how Instagram worked before that day. Reels were just introduced on IG and there was a significant increase in the social media usage by everyone. My friend’s encouraging words stuck with me after that day. This gave me a purpose, a purpose of my own, apart from my family. I shot my first video for Instagram and after spending hours and hours editing the video, I posted my first video titled, “How to style a black skirt in 5 different ways!” It was not perfect but it gave me immense happiness and a great boost in my confidence. I started making videos on fashion and makeup regularly.
My husband has been the biggest support in following this passion of my mine since the day I shot my first video. He helps me in all my photo shoots and video shoots. I took a break of few months from content creation in the year 2022 after I gave birth to my second one but soon bounced back into filming again with the support of my family. It has almost been 4 years that I have been a fashion and makeup content creator on Instagram. It has shaped my personality and given me an identity that is different from being a mother. It’s a therapy and a form of self expression for me.
I have bagged many collaboration opportunities from a lot of big brands and would want to continue my content creation journey with other national/international brands in the years to come.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The biggest challenge I faced in this journey was striking a balance between my role as a content creator and as a mother. I didn’t want to miss out on my kids’ milestones. I wanted the best of the both worlds and I definitely have to credit my little family in helping me achieve this. I must admit that it’s not always easy to go for a shoot every time with all the mother and wife responsibilities but I’m proud of my family and myself that every time we just get it together and make it happen! There are good days and then there are not so good days but the key to success is keeping your heart and mind to something meaningful in your life and not giving up.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a Fashion-Makeup-Lifestyle content creator on Instagram. I post pictures and make videos on trending fashion outfits, makeup looks and lifestyle tips and My blog @heelsnbrushes aims to inspire modern women with the same. My USP is my story telling ability that sets me apart from others, either through the visuals or the captions in my posts that I craft very eloquently. Without being too savvy about the content creation techniques or too careless about the idea of the posts, I try to strike a balance between the two and make sure I keep my individuality intact.
We’d love to hear about how you think about risk taking?
While I have had a conservative approach with risk taking in my own life, my views on risk taking are that it can be a key to a better life, but it’s not always good or bad. Sometimes you go by your gut feeling and take a leap of faith or sometimes you just follow a defined path, but the outcomes are not always guaranteed and that’s when you realize that being a part of your game is itself rewarding and worth every risk that comes your way. Whether risk taking is good idea, it probably depends on the situation and your perception towards it. But aren’t we all always risking one or the other things??
