Life & Work with Good Ghost Productions of Atlanta, GA

Today we’d like to introduce you to Good Ghost Productions

Hi Good Ghost, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
If we didn’t believe in the invisible string theory before, we certainly do now. And neither of us would have ever thought our careers would begin the first day of second grade. Meghana walked right up to Rosemary, stuck her hand out like it was a business transaction, and said “Wanna be best friends?”. And so we were. We played convoluted games of ‘House’ where our story arcs had to resolve themselves before our parents could pry us apart. Then tragedy struck pre-teen us when Rosemary moved across the country just after starting sixth grade. We supported one another through middle school via the internet as best as kids could. Flash forward to 2022, Rosemary was planning her move to Atlanta when she saw that Meghana had just moved there to pursue the same thing as her – The Film Industry. Meghana Singh had been training to be a writer/director and Rosemary Gilmore an actor. It took a year of scheduling conflicts to die down, and we were finally able to reconnect and start pursuing filmmaking together. Rosemary came up with the idea of shooting whatever we could think of – even if it was just her making a bunch of eggs. And thus A Good Egg was born. In August of 2024, we filmed our first short film about Daisy, a college student living on her own for the first time, attempting adulthood via breakfast. We launched Good Ghost Productions officially on Friday the 13th of September (hoping the spooky name and spooky day will foster good luck). Our different experiences in the industry, and our friendship, has made us a great team. It feels like no time has passed since grade school. We have more ideas than we can handle and are very excited about our next two films in development, aliased “Project Princess” and “Project Beach” (plus many more). We are grateful that we get to keep playing pretend and pursuing our dreams together!

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The core of filmmaking is navigating the million bumps that get thrown your way. The entire job of a producer is squashing or coordinating problems as they pop up. Technical difficulties, balancing schedules, weather – there are so many things that can feel out of your hands. But we like to focus on what we can control, and have learned to use pre-production to over prepare as much as possible. Not only do we have a Plan A, we also have a Plan B, Plan C, and sometimes a Plan D. Our next set of plans involves growing our team. Filmmaking is a venture that cannot be done single-handedly. Our first short film, A Good Egg, was done with the most bare-bones resources and it was still four people juggling multiple roles. We know we are not experts on everything, and as we grow our team we want to find artists who share our approach to filmmaking. This industry can be quite stressful, and at Good Ghost Productions we want to emphasize creating a supportive, safe, and collaborative environment. And enjoy the fun parts to the fullest! It is a privilege to get to spend our days directed by our imaginations and it is not something we ever want to take for granted.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
At Good Ghost Productions, we aim to create empathetic stories of ignored, forgotten, or “ordinary” people in real, complex worlds. Our films reflect life and allow you to escape from it. Life is hard. We want to reflect reality, but also embrace escapism to provide joy to those who may need it most. We believe art creates more empathy in the world. Because of the immersive nature of film, you can experience the world from someone else’s perspective – maybe without even realizing it. The themes currently resonating with us include friendship, womanhood, self-identity, and mental health. Our first film, A Good Egg, though originally about a bunch of eggs, turned into a coming of age story about self-identity. Our next film, “Project Princess” is about friendships that consume you. Friendships are not meant to end, or so we all hope. Friendship breakups are devastating – yet they happen all the time. We are proud to explore not only the beauty in friendships, but the pain and anxiety that a toxic one will create.

So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
We love storytelling. Whether you’re a creator or in the audience, we believe it can have a great impact on people’s lives. There are so many hidden gem filmmakers who have stories yet to be told. Right now we only have the capabilities to make our own films, but we are so excited to grow to the point where we can produce other creators’ works as well. Everything we make, or help others produce, will explore hidden, ignored, and forgotten stories.
