Today we’d like to introduce you to Katina Driver
Hi Katina, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
My brother once said I was the most talented one in the family, I don’t know about all of that but I will say being the baby of the family allows you to be a great observer of everyone that has gone before you.
My love of Photography and Art started with my mother. Growing up she was always trying different thing’s. She was an amazing athlete, still is incredibly smart, and artistic. If there was a special event, you better believe she has the photos, and with her being a Sunday school teacher she was always finding crafts or trips for us to do.
At home, it was puzzles one month, learning how to make clothes the next, crocheting another, and whatever she fancied, or wanted to try next.
As I got older, I naturally flowed into wanting to capture the big events of life in our family.
Professionally, I started taking photos to help friends who were becoming entrepreneurs knowing the importance visibility.
Loving home decor, a bit of glam, a dash of serenity, and capturing just a good moment, if I thought of something for the house, socially, inspirational, family, or something I thought a friend needed and I couldn’t find it, I’d create it digitally, paint it, get my phone out, or grab my camera and go to work.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Overall and initially, creating Art was on my down time. It was smooth because I love it and my brain is always going in terms of creativity.
The Struggle is always the business side, visibility, the cost of creating, how much to charge, and the space to do it in.
My launch was amazing. It was in honor of my mother who inspired these gifts, on her birthday, surrounded by close family and friends, but the personal financial cost of making dreams into a reality is expensive. I just stay focused on the end goal of success and building so I don’t give up.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Being a creative has allowed me to work in many different genres and business spaces. From head shots, to event planning, styling, movie sets web shows, background singing, talent management, and content development ,my life has been full of many amazing opportunities which now include the world of art.
My business slogan is “ Where Serenity and Sophistication Meet.
When making a piece for a child or an adult, my goal is for them to be able to carry it throughout all stages of life, with the versatility of being able to hang one of my pieces in a variety of ways that will always keep it fresh, interesting and create new life in any space.
My socially conscious pieces, in a room set for a sophisticated pallet and atmosphere shine the brightest to me, making them great conversational pieces for guest and exhibitions.
When my art is sold, On the receipt, it says “ From my HeART to yours”. It’s bitter sweet to see what you have worked on leave you because it is created from the heart, but I’m also like a proud parent rooting for each piece to go be great and shine to it’s greatest potential in whatever space the new owner chooses or wants to elevate.
In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
Art is forever changing, that is the beauty of it. An artist like me could not have necessarily been able to call myself one maybe 40 years ago, but as Technology changes so does the way we create. The biggest trend that I have noticed is the way new artist like myself push and display their work.
Traditionally, to do an exhibition or get noticed, a gallery ( if you are lucky ) would back you often taking up to 60% percent of an artist’s profits.
Now artist are setting up their social media, websites, and partnering with businesses to sell and debut art in hopes of retaining a higher profit.
With AI now at the forefront, I can see how in the future it can and will make it more difficult for artists to be seen and appreciated if a computer can make Art in less than 5 minutes.
