Rising Stars: Meet Govanna Covington of North Atlanta

Today we’d like to introduce you to Govanna Covington

Hi Govanna, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I started Tink Treats back in 2015 while I was still in high school. Initially, I focused on dipping chocolate-covered strawberries and pretzels, selling them around my school. As I gained more experience, I expanded my offerings to include cupcakes, banana pudding cups, and cheesecake bites for birthday parties, grand openings, and those moments when customers just had a sweet tooth. Stepping out of my comfort zone, I decided to learn how to make custom cakes. I spent hours watching YouTube tutorials and worked at a bakery in Ohio, where I learned from talented bakers. Before long, I was being booked for weddings, baby showers, and graduation parties. Eager to continue my growth, I took a cake decorating class from an amazing baker who taught me the finer points of custom cake design. Now, after almost two years in Atlanta, I’ve been growing and learning every day, and I’m excited about where Tink Treats is headed!

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I’ve faced my fair share of challenges, especially when I made the big decision to move 10 hours away from my hometown to Atlanta. Initially, I stuck to the original menu of baked goods I was used to making, but sales were slow. I soon realized I needed to customize my menu based on my location and what my customers actually wanted, rather than just what I liked. I started receiving emails and messages from customers asking if I offered sample sizes of my cakes, as well as pies and cookies. These were popular requests, but I hadn’t considered adding them to my menu. Once I introduced these items, I saw a significant increase in sales and finally connected with my audience. Understanding your customers’ needs and wants is key to creating meaningful connections and achieving better business outcomes.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
