Life & Work with Sarah O’hara of Atlanta Metro Area

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sarah O’hara

Hi Sarah, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Our family moved to Atlanta shortly after I graduated from college, and we quickly had to adjust to life with two active, outdoorsy little boys—our 3-year-old, who we call Danger, and our 2-year-old, Havoc. Settling into a new city, we were always on the lookout for activities to keep them entertained and engaged. However, we noticed that much of the content from local creators focused on areas north of Atlanta, like Cobb and Gwinnett counties.

That sparked an idea: what if we created our own content highlighting kid-friendly activities in the lesser-covered areas south of the city, like Henry and Fayette counties? From that small seed, our TikTok channel began to grow, expanding to cover day trips within a two-hour radius of Atlanta and even longer road trip destinations.

Thanks to our platform, we’ve had the chance to explore not only Georgia but beyond, discovering hidden gems and sharing them with families like ours. The positive response has been incredible—every time we read a comment from a family saying they’ve discovered a new adventure because of us, it’s a reminder of why we started this journey in the first place.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The road hasn’t been entirely smooth, but it’s taught us a lot. I’m a middle school math teacher, and my husband is in the process of building his own animation studio. Every penny he makes gets reinvested into the business, so with two young kids and tight finances, we don’t have much extra for travel. And yet, to create travel content, you have to actually travel—so we’ve had to get really creative.

That challenge has turned out to be a blessing in disguise. We focus on destinations that are either free or very affordable, and that’s something many families appreciate, especially in today’s economy. When you’re raising kids, even on a budget, you still want their childhood to feel magical and full of adventure. That’s what we strive to offer—showing that you don’t need a big budget to explore new places and make lasting memories.

While we’d love more financial freedom, we’ve found so much value in helping other families who are in the same boat. It’s incredibly rewarding to see our content resonate with those looking for affordable ways to travel and create special moments with their kids.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
We’re best known for our TikTok account, @TheOHarasTravel, where my husband and I, along with our two toddlers, share family and adventure-style travel content. Our focus is on discovering and showcasing attractions in and around Atlanta, affordable vacation options, hiking and camping experiences, and practical tips for traveling with toddlers.

What sets us apart is our authenticity and relatability. We’ve built a small but incredibly engaged community, and through that connection, we’ve had the opportunity to partner with a variety of brands and local attractions. I never imagined we’d have this kind of influence—that people would genuinely care about our opinions and recommendations. It’s both humbling and rewarding, and we take it seriously. We’re committed to only promoting products, destinations, and experiences that we truly believe will benefit our audience.

What I’m most proud of is the trust we’ve built with our community. It’s not just about numbers or views—it’s about offering real value to families like ours, who are looking for affordable, enriching ways to travel and create memories together. Every time we hear from someone who’s discovered a new adventure or had a positive experience because of our recommendations, it reminds us why we love doing this.

Have you learned any interesting or important lessons due to the Covid-19 Crisis?
Our first son was born in early 2021, right in the middle of the pandemic. I was working from home, had to labor and give birth wearing a mask—the full pandemic experience. Becoming a first-time parent is overwhelming under normal circumstances, but doing so during such an uncertain time, with conflicting advice about how to keep our baby safe, added a whole new layer of stress.

What we learned during that time was how important it is to focus on what truly matters to us and block out the noise. That mindset has been invaluable as we’ve grown on social media. Regardless of how big or small your platform is, criticism and negativity are inevitable. But thanks to the confidence we developed during those early months of parenthood, we don’t let it affect us. When we get hate comments, I just delete them and move on.

That experience taught us resilience and helped us prioritize our values—both as parents and as content creators. It’s a lesson we continue to apply in our everyday lives, allowing us to stay true to ourselves and our community.
