Today we’d like to introduce you to Zabiha Bites
Hi Zabiha, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Our story began with the need for more halal food options in Georgia, especially in the South. I, Alimatou, shared this idea with Djene over dinner, knowing we both love food and want to get closer to our faith. For us, that meant eating halal and sharing these spots with fellow Muslims in Georgia. With our creativity and humor, we came up with our name, logo, and catchphrase: ‘Assalamu Alaykum Bigbacks, It’s Zabihabites,’ greeting everyone with peace and blessings.
Though we were initially unsure of how people would respond, our first video reached over 50,000 people. The comments showed us that viewers not only enjoyed our content but were eager to try the restaurants and even suggested others. We keep track of every suggestion, and our list now includes many local spots. Our goal is to highlight halal options for Muslims and inspire more restaurants to consider adding halal to their menus, recognizing the demand within our community
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Alhamdulillah, it’s been a smooth road for us because we always work things out together no matter what. One of the struggles we can agree on however, would be time, distance, and finances. Most halal restaurants, or restaurants that offer halal is located in Duluth or Alpharetta, two very far locations from those of us closer to the south or even in Atlanta. Visiting these spots often requires a 45-minute to an hour drive, which we know isn’t feasible for everyone—this is why we’re passionate about encouraging more local restaurants to include halal options.
Finances is sometimes a problem being that we completely promote these restaurants free of charge and plan to remain that way. Overall, it’s a fun experience learning and eating along the way.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Our business specializes in exploring halal food and sharing honest, thoughtful ratings to help food lovers make great choices. We’re known for our integrity and our commitment to showcasing the best halal options with transparency. What sets us apart is our focus on a diverse range of cuisines—Mediterranean, African, Mexican, and more—and our dedication to representing each dish authentically. We’re proud to connect people with delicious halal food experiences they might not find on their own. Being foodies at heart, we don’t just rate food; we immerse ourselves in every taste to give the most authentic recommendation possible.
Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
My advice for those just starting out is to stay committed to what you believe in, lead with faith, and be creative. Not everyone will support you right away, and that’s completely okay. Sometimes, it’s true that strangers may be your first supporters rather than your closest friends. Appreciate those who show up and count your blessings.
You’re not going to be everyone’s cup of tea, and that’s perfectly fine. For example, our business mainly aims to reach Muslim audiences, yet we’ve found that many people outside the community also enjoy our reviews and get excited to try new foods. Be open to ideas that others might suggest—you don’t have to follow them all, but it’s valuable to consider them. Above all, do this work from the heart and for the positive impact you know you can make. Don’t let the drive for attention or clout steer your path. Let authenticity guide you.
