Meet Michelle Pulfer of Atlanta, GA

Today we’d like to introduce you to Michelle Pulfer

Michelle, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Ever since I was young, I remember having such a burning passion for the arts. I grew up learning how to sketch and paint with my mom, amongst other mediums as I grew older. My photography adventures began in 2021, I was working at a call center for state health insurance and as a creative, it wasn’t a satisfying role. I found a job posting for preschool photography and remember thinking to myself, “Well, I’ve never used a professional camera or worked with kids, but I bet it’s better than this.” Now, here I am almost 4 years later and couldn’t be happier! Since then I’ve had the opportunity to connect with people of all ages and capture snapshots of their journey.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Photography has been a challenging path for me, primarily because it’s not always financially stable. It’s often not a full-time, 40-hour-a-week job, and many photographers, including myself, can relate to the ‘starving artist’ mentality. The reality is that the income can be unpredictable, especially when trying to balance the creative side of the work with the business side. It’s a tough field where passion doesn’t always translate into financial success, and it requires a lot of hustle to make ends meet.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I spend my day to day hosting picture days for K-12 students all across the beautiful peach state, Georgia! I absolutely love meeting new people and making a bunch of new friends each and every day. For my personal photography my focus has been on couples and weddings. I find them to be so enchanting, plus who doesn’t love a good love story?! You can just feel the love in the air and it gets me every single time.

Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
My wonderful mother deserves so much credit for nurturing my creativity and helping me discover my passion for making art. I told her as a child that I wanted to be an artist, and now here I am! I know she would be incredibly proud of everything I’ve achieved. I also want to acknowledge my amazing fellow photographers who I work with daily—I’m truly grateful for all of them. They are incredibly kind and always ready to offer support. If it weren’t for my team, I honestly don’t think I’d be where I am today.
