Rising Stars: Meet Jonathan Rivera of Atlanta, GA

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jonathan Rivera

Hi Jonathan, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
InDaSpot Podcast started due to the lack of recognition and light being shed on talented creative Latinos living in Georgia. Growing up as an aspiring artist and creative myself, my journey in wanting to be a music artist was filled with obstacles like not having enough media outlets that would cater to upcoming local talent. This podcast was inspired by those same struggles that i went through myself and also to inspire upcoming creatives that UNITY is the key! The purpose of this project is to build a network and shed light into other creatives. InDaSpot is a spanglish podcast about the lives of creatives Latinos living in Atlanta.

A huge inspiration to the podcast was and will always be an amazing latin creative by the name of Ramon “Zon D Leon” Liranzo who was one of the first to create a podcast about the latin music scene called “El Basement”

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Im a strong believer that nothing great comes easy. Of course theres been struggles, mainly with funding since this is an independent project put together by a small group of people with similar goals and dreams. But the important part is that every struggle that comes along the way, we overcome!

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a songwriter, producer and engineer that has worked with some of the most talented local talent coming out of Atlanta. More recently i am doing podcasting and building a platform for creatives to express themselves and connect with others. I can say that i am most known for my contributions in the music scene dating back since 2006. Pursuing a music career since then has put me in a lot of different rooms and places where i have had the opportunity to work with many talented individuals and has kept me involved closely with the growth of the Latin Music scene here in Atlanta. What i am most proud of is the way that the new wave of latin artists are collaborating and uniting to show how talented we are and also raising the bar with dope visuals and great music. I think what sets me apart from others is the ability to remain relevant with each generation of artists by always offering guidance and knowledge to the ones who are chasing and going after their goals. I love uniting different people with different talents and giving flowers where they are due. Its all a part of building relationships to keep the musical ecosystem going.

How do you think about happiness?
Giving back, helping others. I believe my purpose in life is to help those in need. Its always fulfilling to help others.
