Meet Monica Castro Marquez of Atlanta

Today we’d like to introduce you to Monica Castro Marquez

Hi Monica, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Montsy is a contemporary Hispanic rapper known for her versatility in her lyrics and delivery. Growing up in Soyapango El Salvador, Montsy developed her passion for urban art where wall graff, breakdance, skateboarding and music in general sparked her interest to become a creator. Working primary on poems and rhymes, Montsy combines her writing skills with her versatility in delivery into a spanish Hip Hop lyrics. Her work has been exhibited on different local places around the Atlanta city including her presentation with Telemundo Atlanta introducing herself as an emerging artist. Thought her lyrics, Montsy aspires to keep alive the importance of the message in the lyrics of her songs, through love and awareness of the human being, the feelings and emotions that each of us carry within us. Currently based on Brookhaven GA, Montsy is working on different projects with more commercial instrumentals connecting her message to any audience that listens to her.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Definitely the most promising roads require narrow and hard passages to cross. Maintaining a balance between my day to day person and Montsy is a daily task, keeping organized schedules, maintaining a constant growth in personal education, growth in artist and making serious decisions where it involves starting from scratch is not something easy to cope with but when you are alone on the road. In my case, making the major decision to move from California to Georgia in order to provide training in my area of work and outside of it to think about my future as an artist was a decision that took me several weeks to consider. And I made it. Starting from scratch is not easy, but Montsy is step by step entering the path of urban art in Atlanta through his music and that’s already a win after everything we’ve been through.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m an employee of a company that prints custom photos on canvas, for years I was working with them in Sacramento California; until they opened a new company in Lawrenceville Georgia, where they encouraged us to move to that state to support the growth of this new warehouse. Thanks to this company I learned the process of photography based on the famous darkroom, but in my case I was the operator of a machine that was in charge of printing photographs of Kodak and Fuji material.

We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
I don’t really have a favorite memory of my childhood.
