Today we’d like to introduce you to Jonathan Peters
Hi Jonathan, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Jonathan Peters is a dynamic professional with a unique background in both the entertainment and technology fields, blending creativity with technical expertise. Originally from New York City, Jonathan relocated to Atlanta in 2021 while working remotely, a move inspired by the desire to deepen connections within the tech industry. Recognizing the vibrant tech community in Atlanta, Jonathan founded a social group, Junior Zeros, on Meetup.com—a collective that now gathers some of Atlanta’s most savvy, creative, and innovative tech professionals.
Driven by the city’s creative energy, Jonathan expanded this vision in 2024 by taking over and revitalizing ATL Black Creatives and Influencers, a Meetup group with over one thousand members. Under Jonathan’s leadership, the group began hosting monthly events, offering Atlanta and Georgia-based creatives a dedicated space to connect, collaborate, and forge meaningful relationships. With a commitment to fostering authentic connections, Jonathan continues to build bridges between the tech and creative worlds, inspiring and empowering individuals across both industries to reach new heights together.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It was a challenge to be working remotely but also moving to a state with almost no connections. I also lived over 1 hour from Atlanta, so it made networking exceptionally difficult with the long commute. However, I quickly learned that I had a strong urge for community that I did not have in my hometown. After being here for 3 years, the vibrant Black creativity of Atlanta has unlocked my inner creativity and desire to connect with other creatives. Since taking over as organizer for ATL Black Creatives and Influencers, it has been a smooth road thanks to the support of the professional and creative industries and communities found in Atlanta.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I started my career as an Audio Engineer in NYC as a freelancer . I enjoyed the blend of the creative and technical nature of the work and the opportunity to work on many interesting projects in the Entertainment industry.
After a few years in the Entertainment industry, I wanted to focus more on expanding my technical skills so I transitioned to the Technology field and have the pleasure of working on software projects, serving the Digital Media and Broadcast field.
In 2021, I decided to move out of my hometown and start a new life in ATL. Living in ATL reignited my creativity that I put aside in pursuit of career advancement. I fell back in love with my favorite forms of art – videography, music, and editing. In 2024, I launched – Juniorzeros.io and a social media channel focusing on wellness and motivation for Tech professionals and to tell my own story.
In 2024, I took over as organizer for the inactive group, ATL Black Creatives and Influencers. Having been an organizer of my own group, I felt confident that there are many creative folks that wanted to meet new people similar to them.
I’m proud to have the support needed to build communities and find ways to use art and creativity and our resources to make it easier for Black Atlanta creatives to meet and collaborate, celebrate what we love to create in this inspiring city.
Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
I’ve been quite lucky to have mentors, partners, and support from the community to help build something positive that promotes Atlanta art. I’m hope our group gently nudges Black creatives out of their comfort zone and sends them further along their path of creativity.
