Today we’d like to introduce you to Pooja Patel
Hi Pooja, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Hi! My name is Pooja Patel. I am digital marketer and content creator. I have always been an enthusiast of the creative world, whether it be through my photography, fashion, writing, or sharing my story through the videos I make. I’m from a very small town in South Carolina, about an hour outside of Charlotte, North Carolina. Being South Asian and growing up in a predominately white small town is a huge part of my story. From a young age, I use to feel like I never belonged or fit in so I would try so hard to blend in with my friends and those around me. I often neglected learning about my culture and embracing who I was and where I came from. Though I was heavily influenced by my environment, I always knew there had to be more out there. When I moved away for college, I learned a lot about who I was and what it takes to make a name for myself in such a big world. Obviously, I am still so young and learning how to navigate not only the creative industry but also life. One of the biggest lessons I have learned so far is that, in order to be successful, you have to continuously embrace a growth mindset. Nothing changes if you’re not changing, and whatever you’re not changing, you’re choosing. After I finished my undergrad at the University of South Carolina, and I had no idea what I wanted to do with my life. I graduated May 2023, and I decided to pursue my MBA in Marketing at Mercer University here in Atlanta starting January 2024. This year has been incredible not only for my career aspirations but personal growth. I chose Atlanta because I knew it would push me out of my comfort zone. Being a content creator or even pursuing anything in the creative industry can be so intimidating, especially when there are already so many amazing creators. One thing that has helped me to continue to put myself out there is that we get this one life to live the way we want to live it. Everyone is in their own world with their own successes, strengths, failures, and insecurities. Embrace your uniqueness and what sets you a part from those around you. Nothing compares to living for the approval of yourself rather than those around you. Currently, I am finishing up my MBA in Marketing and plan to graduate December 2024. I am a part-time content creator. I also have an amazing internship with F&W Style, a luxury leather handbag company, as their now social media marketing intern-previously fashion marketing intern. I am so excited to see what this next chapter in my life holds, whether its moving back home or finding a job here in Atlanta. This city has taught me so much and has treated me so well. I am forever grateful for the experiences and amazing people I have met through my journey here.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
One of the biggest struggles trying to get into the creative industry is self-doubt and comparison. It is so easy to let others dictate what you should or shouldn’t wear, post, create, say, etc. I still struggle with this and of course have my off weeks. I think it is so important to take a step back when you start having those negative feelings and remind yourself why you started. Discipline and consistency also go a long way when trying to navigate through these moments of doubt.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a digital marketer and content creator. I post mostly fashion, beauty, and lifestyle content. I am most proud of how far I’ve come in my content and editing since I have started posting and how much more confident I am in front of the camera. I’m not really sure what sets my content a part from others, however, I do know I always try to keep my content relatable and real. I want my brand to help others, especially young girls, embrace their own individuality. Today, I am proud of my culture and where I come from, and that is definitely something I want as a part of my brand. I love embracing my culture by blending South Asian fashion with Western fashion trends and hope to inspire others to do the same. I do have business and creative endeavors I definitely want to purse in the future, but currently, I am focusing on building my brand and gaining experience.
Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
I post a lot on social media and am often in front of a camera and doing things that draw attention to me. I think one surprising thing people may not know is that I love getting out of my comfort zone and putting myself out there, but I am actually terrified and nervous doing 99% of the things that I get myself into. Sometimes you just have to fake it until you make it.
