Community Highlights: Meet Eva Phillips of tulip

Today we’d like to introduce you to Eva Phillips

Hi Eva , we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
After studying hotel management, an internship at a hotel in North Atlanta brought me to the States from Germany where I was born and raised.
After working in corporate America, I realized that I wanted to pursue my dream of working in floral design. While keeping my day job, Tulip was born in 2005. My very first networking event that I attended, I met Heather. All because of a funky purse that I carried. She had been working for a floral design company for many years and was full of advice for someone completely green in the industry. After shadowing her for a wedding installation, the two of us decided to become business partners. We worked around the clock out of my house/kitchen and were able to quit our day jobs, just 9 short months after starting the business and moved tulip into warehouse space. We have provided floral decorations for many joyous life celebrations and corporate events all over the Atlanta and surrounding areas and recently expanded our services to the Emerald coast.
Heather and I are looking forward to celebrating our 20-year anniversary with a trip to the Netherlands to tip toe through the tulips fields.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The recession in 2008 was tough – we had just signed a new lease for a bigger warehouse space. Luckily, our landlords were kind and supportive of our small business and worked with us on rent. Floral décor was cut from most spending, and we took on even the smallest wedding to make ends meet.

Covid was another devastating hit to our small company but both times we came out stronger on the other side.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?

We specialize in beautiful floral decor but also create the entire look of an event by pulling in linen, lighting, drapery, rentals, and anything else our client’s desire. Our main bread and butter are weddings, but we also handle every sized corporate events. Weddings are very personal, and we pride ourselves in closely listening to our clients to create the vision that they have always dreamt of. Knowing that they trust us to be creative for them is a joy and it is exhilarating to transform an event space in a short period of time to create a WOW factor. We have worked with many wonderful clients who refer us to their friends and family, which is a wonderful accomplishment.
