Today we’d like to introduce you to Brian Kovener
Brian, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My journey has been a mix of passion, curiosity, and seizing opportunities along the way. I grew up in South Florida, where I first became interested in marketing and public relations. After graduating from the University of Central Florida, I earned my MBA from Florida Atlantic University, which helped me build foundational skills in leadership and interpersonal communication.
Initially focusing on sports marketing, I then made a career shift into financial services, which was definitely not something I had planned. A pivotal moment in my career came when I became a National Recruiting Director at the age of 30. That experience shaped my direction and gave me the confidence to tackle any goal—even those that initially seemed insurmountable.
Today, I’m where I am because I’ve continued to focus on my core strengths and values, always seeking new ways to challenge myself and push boundaries. In 2016, I left the financial world—and the warmth of Florida—to help launch VUE Magazine in New Jersey. We successfully built the brand into the largest luxury lifestyle publication in the state, and most recently expanded to Atlanta, which has brought me here full-time. I moved to Georgia this past summer, and you could say this is where the story gets much more interesting…
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
No journey is ever entirely smooth, and mine has certainly had its fair share of challenges. One of the biggest struggles I faced early on was navigating the transition from sports marketing to financial services. It was a complete 180 from what I had envisioned for myself, and there were definitely moments of self-doubt. I had to adapt quickly and learn an entirely new set of skills, and I realized that to succeed, I needed to lean into my ability to communicate and build relationships.
Another challenge came when I moved from Florida to New Jersey to launch VUE Magazine. Moving to a new industry, relocating to a new state, and building a brand from the ground up was a huge undertaking. There were times when the uncertainty felt overwhelming, but it was during these moments that I had to remind myself to stay focused on the bigger picture and trust the process.
I think the key to overcoming these struggles has been perseverance and learning to embrace failure as a part of growth. Every setback has taught me valuable lessons, and it’s been those moments that have shaped who I am today. I’ve learned to adapt, stay resilient, and approach each challenge with a mindset of growth and opportunity.

Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
Growing up, I was definitely more on the shy, introverted side. I spent a lot of time in my own world, reading, writing, and exploring my creative side. I was always curious and interested in learning, but I wasn’t the loudest person in the room. My interests were varied—I loved anything that involved storytelling, whether it was through books, media, or even in how people shared their experiences. I wasn’t always comfortable in social situations, but over time, I learned how to push myself out of my shell and embrace new opportunities.
While I was introverted, I also had a strong drive to understand people and the world around me, which ultimately led me to my passion for marketing and communications. I realized that the skills I built from being an observer—listening, empathizing, and understanding—were actually huge assets in my career and helped me connect with others in a deeper way.
