Life & Work with Jessica Medina of Atlanta

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jessica Medina

Hi Jessica, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I am an actress and a stuntwoman, and soon I will be producing my first film.

Since I was a little girl, I loved watching Jackie Chan films, and I decided I wanted to be in action movies. I was shy as a child, but I loved dancing, and I was always dancing, since I was 5 years old. Jackie Chan was so smooth and powerful in his fights, and they looked so much like dancing to me, so I decided action movies were like very physical dancing.

Entertainment is a tough business, you have to be disciplined and strong with a very good work ethic, and I guarantee I will out-work anyone!

In my career so far, I have been blessed to have some fantastic mentors, friends, and colleagues who believe in me. However, there is also a lot of struggle and negativity that you face, and one of the first lessons is a hard lesson: don’t trust too quickly, wait and see who people really are, because they will eventually show you.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It is difficult for a woman in this business, and I feel even more difficult for a Latina woman. People can be very two-faced and jealous of you, so you have to be aware of who is trustworthy and who is a bully, and simply looking out for themselves. I have been bullied in this business, but I continue my journey and learn the lessons that I need to learn so that nothing will stop my dream of success in this industry. The world will know that it is possible to follow your dreams, no matter who you are or where you come from.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
People will use you, but you have to persevere. I want to continue my journey so others in the world can see it is possible to make up your mind and follow your heart. I want the world to know about the tragedy of human trafficking, something that I have personal experience with. You can feel trapped in a world where you are being used and nobody helps or even seems to care. It is easy to give up in these types of situations, but there can be a way out, you can find help, it is even searching for you, and all of those trapped like you are. This is why I try so hard, because there are so many without hope and I want to help them. I have been told that I am crazy, that I will never make a difference, but I know that the only way to never make a difference is to not even try. I refuse to give up on myself and I refuse to give up on those who have no one to help them.

If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
I believe that you do not have to be able to see the entire path in front of you to start a journey, just the next step in front of you. Each day I am taking a new step, and that is how I will complete my journey, one step at a time.
