Kynesia, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My grandmother is my inspiration for everything I do. She was an incredible daughter, mother, friend, community leader, and educator. She had a remarkable ability to brighten up a room, and I was always in awe of her. When she passed away from cancer while I was in sixth grade, I dedicated everything I do and have done in my life to her memory. I became an educator and a community leader because of her. I love serving others; I believe my blessings come from helping those in need.
I started A Seat Creator LLC to empower women of color to take pride in their experiences and knowledge. I want them to know they deserve a seat at the table. The journey may not be easy, but it is absolutely worth it. Throughout my journey, I have faced many challenges, and each setback has prepared me to keep moving forward. I’ve learned that even though the rules may be different for me, it’s crucial never to give up. I have a story to tell, and that’s what my grandmother taught me—to continue sharing my story.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The challenges I’ve faced have been valuable learning lessons. One example is the challenge I’m currently experiencing with my business, A Seat Creator LLC, where I work as a DEI consultant. The landscape of DEI has shifted in many companies, and I’m having to adapt to these changes. I’m discovering that helping companies build an engaged workforce through equitable practices can have a significant impact. For me, the challenge has been adjusting to the new business scope. I worked hard to develop a business that would make a difference, and this change has allowed me to clarify how I want to help people and businesses. I realized that I needed to remove my self-limiting beliefs to see the bigger picture.

I own two businesses that reflect my passions and commitment to empowering others. My first business is Fashiongasms Boutique, a women’s online boutique that truly feels like my baby. It was my very first venture, and it embodies my belief in bringing out each woman’s unique style and personality. There’s something for every woman at Fashiongasms, whether you’re looking for a statement piece or everyday essentials.
My second business is A Seat Creator, LLC, a consulting firm dedicated to empowering Black women to pursue leadership positions. In addition to this, I offer career coaching services. A Seat Creator focuses on change management and organizational effectiveness consulting, with the goal of ensuring that companies adopt equitable hiring and promotion practices. I’m passionate about creating opportunities for women and fostering environments where everyone can thrive.
What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
The most important lesson I’ve learned is that change is inevitable. There are times when I need to regroup and realign my vision with the shifts in business practices. Sometimes, I find that starting fresh is necessary to stay up-to-date with current trends. And you know what? That’s perfectly okay because it’s all part of the process of being a business owner. The journey isn’t always easy, but it’s definitely worth it. I remind myself to keep going, no matter the challenges that come my way.
