Life & Work with Jen Peeples-hampton

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jen Peeples-hampton

Hi Jen, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Well, I grew up in Minneapolis, Minnesota and since Kindergarten I’ve been trained and educated in the classical arts. I went to Hope Academy which is a K-12 school that empowers inner city kids to dream with Honor, Optimism, Perseverance, & Excellence!

I would say that Hope was what exposed me to truly enlightenment. Appreciation for philosophy, & regard for Theology. My intention stems from how I’ve been taught and mentored how think. To be solutions oriented and strategic at the same time.

Where I come from and how I was raised are also pillars of who I am today. Growing up in a very diverse environment; in terms of economics, demographic, cultural, you name it, fashioned my emotional intelligence pretty well. But my experience after going to an HBCU (Historically Black College/University) has tapped into my human intelligence.

As humans we have patterns and those patterns are only known when they are observed. But to take it further- observation can only happen when there is awareness. These factors have gotten me to where I am today & will continue to be a foundation for where I plan to go as well.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I’d say anywhere worth going won’t have easy accessibility. Anything worth having won’t be easily attained. In 2018 I almost lost my life due to complications with my reproductive organs.

I had a hard time being social with my best friends who became family to me because I was silently struggling. As a black woman, it’s easy to be ignored & marginalized. Therefore to avoid rejection, I thought it was best to save myself the additional pain.

I was admitted to the hospital on Thanksgiving and was required to have an emergency operations to remove several obstructions. This was absolutely the lowest I ever felt. I was a Junior in college 600+ miles away from home and family by myself on a Holiday.

One of the nurses who sat with me said something very profound while I was resting after the operation. She said,

“God isn’t done with you yet. I’ve never seen anything like this & you made it through. I’ve been in this field for 40+ years. You are light”.

I sat with her words for the night & realized I needed to up the expectations I had for myself rather than the doubt and fear.

I became a newer person after that experience & I can truly say I am thankful to be here.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
At the moment, I am earning my Masters in Creative Business Leadership from SCAD. This area of concentration is setting me up to become a thought leader in / for organizations that require innovation and foresight.

I also write for Lavender Magazine where I am able to learn about the beautiful people apart of the LGBTQ+ community. Using their narrative to bring their voice to a platform has been one of the most beautiful movements I’ve had the opportunity to contribute to.

I like to say that I specialize in relationships and observing artists who create pure essence. I love people. I love research and I love the process it takes to get from point A to point B. I’m probably known by my best friends that I am very personable & intentional with my interactions and that is what helps set me apart from others. I am unique in my own way of being present with others.

So, before we go, how can our readers or others connect or collaborate with you? How can they support you?
I’d quite enjoy finding a community of likeminded people who enjoy the simple yet satisfying things in life such as travel, photography, art experience, & food!

Collaborating or even being asked to come on a podcast to share my store or connect others to share theirs would be a new form of support. I’m pretty open if anyone else is as well!
