Paris Monet

Hi Paris, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I am a makeup artist and CEO of The Pink Playhouse and The Pink Playhouse Cosmetics. I created The Pink Playhouse in 2014, during. my time in Cosmetology School. Since then, I have built a brand that stands on the commitment to create a safe space for women to nurture their inner child and express themselves creatively. The Pink Playhouse is more than just a beauty brand, it’s a sanctuary where women can unwind and rediscover their confidence. The word “PLAY” is the heart of The Pink Playhouse. Think about when you were a kid, and you were playing, that moment was all about embracing joy, freedom, and self-expression. We just did not know that at the time, and the qualities of makeup ignite those same feelings. Whether you’re swiping on a bold lipstick or experimenting with glitter shadows, there’s something magical about the process. It’s not just about looking beautiful; it’s about feeling joyous, uninhibited, and connected to your inner feeling. Makeup allows us to explore, create, and express who we are, and that playful spirit is what I strive to bring to every product and experience.

My journey began with a deep passion for creativity, leadership, and helping others feel confident. Growing up in Atlanta, a Black Mecca, I was inspired by the entrepreneurial spirits around me. Raised in a single-mother household, I learned the value of hard work early, starting my first job at 14 and excelling there for six years. My involvement in organizations like Girl Scouts, Toastmasters, FBLA, Beta Club, and other various organizations gave me invaluable leadership skills and a strong work ethic. Looking back, I realize these experiences were preparing me to become the CEO of a multi-million dollar company. These experiences taught me invaluable leadership skills and work ethics, shaping the person I am today. They instilled in me the importance of discipline, teamwork, and setting goals, all of which have been instrumental in building my career and business. These experiences laid the foundation for my love of leadership, communication, and customer service.

Currently, I work as a freelance makeup artist and I love pop-up shops to introduce my brand to the community and connect myself with new mentors and supportive clientele. Over time, The Pink Playhouse has flourished, offering high-quality, creative beauty solutions. The Pink Playhouse Cosmetics include unique products like Diamond Kisses, Dewy Kisses, Eyeshadow palettes, mink lashes, and so much more! My goal has always been to inspire women to take control of their stories and embrace their beauty, inside and out.

Today, I’m proud to be a full-time entrepreneur, a makeup artist, and a community builder. From being a makeup artist, hosting events, to creating products, my mission remains the same: to help women feel empowered, beautiful, and supported. Additionally, it’s been a blessing to pay it forward through mentorship. As a mentor in the Taylor Made Mentorship Program, I now have the opportunity to guide and inspire young people, just as I was guided and inspired growing up. It’s incredibly rewarding to share the lessons I’ve learned and see the next generation thrive. Entrepreneurship is truly a blessing!

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The road to where I am today has been anything but smooth, but each challenge has shaped and strengthened me relentlessly. One of my earliest struggles was balancing my job as a corrections officer while building The Pink Playhouse from scratch. Working as a corrections officer was definitely not my dream job, but I chose that path to set my finances up to invest in the startup of my business. In the beginning, I had to sacrifice a lot of my time, sleep, and freedom to keep everything afloat. Even after all that, once The Pink Playhouse was up and running, I still found myself working two full-time jobs to maintain my business while juggling everyday life.

I also faced a few minor setbacks, like moments when things didn’t go as planned or when I experienced financial and emotional hurdles. There were moments of doubt and isolation, especially when I had to remove myself from people and spaces that weren’t aligned with my growth. At times, I felt overwhelmed by the demands of being a one-woman show. Despite, I make a conscious decision to see challenges as opportunities for growth and choosing to view these challenges as learning experiences that make me more resourceful and resilient.

Entrepreneurship is spiritual. God created me with purpose. I have simply learned to trust Him. No matter the challenge, God provides, and as a child of God, you know that you will ultimately end up with something far better than what you were chasing to begin with. The Pink Playhouse has taught me the importance of perseverance, faith, and surrounding myself with supportive people. My family, friends, mentors, and even strangers who became clients have all played a huge role in helping me navigate these challenges. Im veery grateful for each one of them.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
As an artist, my work centers around helping women feel beautiful, confident, and empowered, both inside and out. The Pink Playhouse is more than just a beauty brand; it’s a creative sanctuary that provides high-quality, creative beauty solutions. As a makeup artist, I specialize in crafting flawless, head-turning looks that enhance each client’s natural beauty and celebrate their individuality. Playing in makeup with my clients entails story telling, from getting to know their own personal story to creating their new story with makeup. Each moment with my client is designed to uplift and inspire.

One of my proudest achievements is launching my signature product, Diamond Kisses, a glitter lipstick that has become a favorite among my clients. This product embodies my brand’s mission to add a touch of sparkle and confidence to every woman’s life. Seeing every woman’s face light up when they wear it is one of the most rewarding aspects of my work.

What sets me apart is my ability to create meaningful connections with my clients. I’m not just providing a service, I am creating an experience that makes them feel seen, valued, and celebrated. My approach blends technical skill with genuine care and creativity, which allows me to build lasting relationships with my clients. As a Black woman in business, I create spaces of community-building where women can connect, grow, and support one another. I am committed to using my platform to inspire others and give back to the community.

I’m extremely proud of how far The Pink Playhouse has come since its birth in 2014, and look forward to the community it will build. I reflect often, and seeing my ideas and visions as a child come alive often bring me to tears. Playing with makeup started as a hobby, and now has grown into a thriving business that touches lives in profound ways. I have had the opportunity to work on professional sets, interviewed on celebrity stages, exhibit at the National Expos, hosted classes, and events, and recently I have become a mentor through the Taylor Made Mentorship Program. Each milestone is a testament to what hard work, faith, and support can create, and I’m excited to continue growing and creating.

Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
The beauty industry is constantly evolving. I’m excited to be part of an industry that encourages creativity, innovation, and inclusivity. I definitely believe the industry over next 5-10 years will bring exciting advancements! Especially the major trend of increasing inclusivity and diversity in beauty products and makeup artists. Consumers are seeking brands that cater to all skin tones, types, and textures. I anticipate even more brands will continue embracing this movement.

Technology is another area of rapid growth. Virtual try-ons, augmented reality apps, and personalized online shopping experiences will continue to revolutionize how consumers discover and purchase beauty products. As a Mary Kay consultant, my clients are able to virtually do skin scans on their phone at the comfort of their own home. Social media platforms will remain a driving force for trends and marketing, and influencers will have an even greater impact on shaping consumer preferences. Staying adaptable and leveraging these tools are the key to thriving in this evolving sector.

I also believe sustainability will also play a significant role in shaping the future of the beauty world. Eco-friendly packaging, cruelty-free formulas, and the focus on environmental impact is growing to become standard expectations. As a business owner, I’m exploring ways to make my products and practices more sustainable while still delivering the high-quality results my clients will love.

Lastly, which would be my favorite advancement, the growing trend on self-expression and individuality. Beauty trends have become less about following rigid standards and more about celebrating what makes each person unique. This is the heart of why I am a CEO, as it aligns perfectly with The Pink Playhouse’s mission of self expression and empowerment through playing in makeup.
