Today we’d like to introduce you to Jamika Render
Jamika, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
In 2021, I found myself stepping into a new chapter after navigating a year of profound personal growth in 2020. Returning to work, I joined a school that was rebuilding after the pandemic. The opportunity was transformative, allowing me to pour my creativity and skills into roles that supported both the school’s growth and its students.
One of the most rewarding aspects of this period was creating and teaching my own SEL (social-emotional learning) curriculum. With the CEO’s approval, I developed a program rooted in research but also enriched by my personal journey of self-awareness, growth, and resilience. As someone who’s experienced the power of overcoming challenges, I wanted to create something that would truly resonate with students and empower them to navigate their own paths with confidence.
The result was a 35-week curriculum filled with engaging presentations, games, and activities that captivated students throughout the school year. Today, I’m excited to offer The Hope & Wonder Academy to schools, parents, and organizations, inspiring young minds to embrace hope, curiosity, and resilience. What’s especially fulfilling is hearing from former students who still reach out, asking when they can learn with me again.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The journey has included many twists and turns, including the cancellation of the first educational conference where my co-founder and I were scheduled to present. I view every challenge as an opportunity to grow. Like anyone, I’ve faced moments of doubt and uncertainty. What has kept me moving forward is the belief that the work I’m doing matters and that I have the tools to overcome any obstacle.
I often use the same strategies I teach my students—such as cognitive-behavioral techniques and positive thinking—to stay focused and motivated. Those moments of perseverance remind me why I started this journey and fuel my passion to make a difference.
We’ve been impressed with The Hope & Wonder Academy, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
The Hope & Wonder Academy started as a dream in 2019, originally envisioned as a brick-and-mortar learning center. Over time, it evolved into something even more impactful. Today, it’s a resource that equips youth with the tools they need to thrive—not just academically, but personally.
Our mission is to spark curiosity, inspire hope, and empower students to grow through courses that address both life skills and emotional well-being. What makes The Hope & Wonder Academy truly special is the unique lens through which it was created. During my time working at a school reopening after COVID-19, I developed this curriculum in real time, directly responding to the challenges and opportunities I saw in the classroom.
Our offerings include asynchronous prerecorded lessons, live classes, and personalized 1:1 sessions. Whether families are homeschooling, attending private schools, or seeking supplemental resources, we aim to fill critical gaps in education while inspiring a love of learning.
Looking to the future, we’re excited to expand our courses to include tech-based skills and additional life-skill programming. I’m most proud of the Academy’s ability to meet students where they are and give them the tools to succeed—not just for today but for a lifetime.
Are there any books, apps, podcasts or blogs that help you do your best?
I believe that personal growth is a lifelong journey, so I’m always seeking inspiration through books and podcasts. This year, two books that have deeply resonated with me are Nothing Is Missing: A Memoir of Living Boldly by Nicole Walters and The Power to Change by Craig Groeschel. Both have challenged me to think bigger and embrace growth wholeheartedly.
As for podcasts, I love tuning into The Magnify Conversations, Earn Your Leisure, and 7 Good Minutes. They provide a mix of practical advice and empowering stories that align perfectly with my values. During the holiday season, I also enjoy Tis The Grinch Holiday Podcast for a little fun and laughter!
