Today we’d like to introduce you to Crystal Davis
Crystal, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My journey with Crisha’s Tasty Treats began in 2018, but the seeds were planted long before that. I grew up in Texas, where I first fell in love with baking. My grandmother, Victoria, taught me how to bake from scratch, and her kitchen was where I first discovered the magic of turning simple ingredients into something extraordinary.
In 2014, I made the bold decision to move to Atlanta, Georgia, by myself—not knowing anyone and with no job, but ready for a fresh start. Little did I know, that move would lay the foundation for the life I’m building now.
Fast forward to the end of 2017, I made the difficult decision to quit my job as a paralegal in corporate America. While the job paid the bills, it came at a cost I couldn’t ignore—I was missing out on precious time with my daughter, Serenity. The stress and long hours left me physically and mentally drained, and I realized I couldn’t keep sacrificing my well-being and my role as a mother. I saved up and prepared to leave, but as life often goes, things didn’t go as smoothly as I had hoped.
By 2018, I found myself in a position where I needed to bring in an income for Serenity and I. I was determined to find a way, but I also wanted it to be something that gave me joy. Around this time, a close friend was getting married. They had been a pillar of support for me, and I wanted to give them a meaningful wedding gift. Unfortunately, my finances were tight, so I had to get creative. That’s when inspiration struck: I decided to bake cupcakes for their wedding reception.
I’d learned how to bake from scratch as a child. Baking had always been a passion of mine, but life and work had pushed it to the background. As I whipped up batch after batch of cupcakes for the wedding, something inside me came alive again. When the guests tasted the cupcakes, their reactions blew me away. They kept saying things like, “These cupcakes are Soul-Snatching Good!” I had never heard that phrase before, but it was the kind of validation that made me believe I could turn this passion into something real.
That wedding was a turning point. I realized that baking wasn’t just a hobby or a memory from my past—it could be my future. I had been praying for guidance, asking God to show me the path I was meant to take, and this felt like the answer.
At the urging of a friend, I signed up for my first vendor event at the end of 2018. But before I could officially register, I had to come up with a name for my business. That’s when Crisha’s Tasty Treats was born. In early 2019, I took the next step and officially registered my business with the state of Georgia. By early 2020, I became a licensed cottage baker under Georgia’s cottage food laws, solidifying my journey as an entrepreneur.
The milestones since then have been incredible. In April 2022, I had the honor of competing in Dessert Wars, an experience that pushed me to new heights. Later that year, I secured the bag by trademarking Crisha’s Tasty Treats, ensuring my brand was protected. October 2022 was a defining moment when I was nominated for Best of Georgia in the Cupcake Bakery category. Not only was I nominated, but I was thrilled to win the Best of Georgia Regional Winner in that category.
The momentum carried into 2023, when I booked my first major corporate client, a milestone that felt like a dream come true. That same year, I began giving back to my community by speaking at local middle and elementary schools during career days. Sharing my journey with young students and showing them what it’s like to be an entrepreneur running a cupcake business has been one of the most rewarding parts of my journey.
Today, Crisha’s Tasty Treats isn’t just a business- it’s the answer to a prayer, a way to actively be present and support my family, and a platform to spread love and inspire others.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has definitely not been a smooth road. Building Crisha’s Tasty Treats has been a journey full of challenges, but each one has shaped me into the person and entrepreneur I am today.
One of the biggest hurdles I faced early on was imposter syndrome. I found myself constantly comparing my work to others, feeling like my cupcakes weren’t good enough because I wasn’t doing things the way someone else was. I had to realize that my unique style and vision were just as valuable as anyone else’s.
Another challenge was figuring out the legal side of starting a home baking business in Georgia. In the beginning, I struggled to navigate the cottage food laws and understand what I needed to do to get licensed. It was overwhelming trying to ensure I was compliant while also managing the creative and operational sides of my business.
Vendor events were another learning curve. While some events were fantastic and helped me grow my business, others were not so great. I quickly learned that not every event organizer was truthful. I spent time, energy, and money preparing for events that didn’t deliver what was promised, which was discouraging and costly.
On top of those professional challenges, I’ve also had to navigate the complexities of being a mom to four children while running a business. Balancing motherhood and entrepreneurship is no small feat, especially when one of my children was diagnosed with alopecia universalis. Supporting them through their journey, ensuring they felt loved and confident, while managing my growing business, is an emotional balancing act.
In 2021, I faced one of the most difficult times of my life when I experienced a miscarriage. It sent me into a deep depression, and when I had more children, I struggled with postpartum depression as well. It was a dark period, but what helped pull me out of it—alongside, God, my loving partner and therapy—was baking. Getting back into the kitchen and creating brought me a sense of purpose and joy that I had been missing. Baking became my saving grace. It reminded me of who I am and gave me a way to heal and reconnect with myself.
This journey has been full of ups and downs, but through it all, I’ve learned to give myself grace. Life has a way of throwing challenges your way, and those experiences change you. But when you have something you truly love, something that fills your soul, it can help you climb out of the darkest places. For me, that something is baking. It has been my therapy, my creative outlet, and my way of giving back to the world.

Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
There are so many people who deserve credit for the success of Crisha’s Tasty Treats, and I’m incredibly grateful for each and every one of them. But I’ll start at the very beginning—first and foremost, I want to thank God. Without Him, none of this would be possible.
Next, my grandmother, Victoria, deserves a special mention. She taught me how to bake from scratch at such a young age and planted the seed that eventually grew into this business. My mother and brother were also a big part of this journey, always being supportive and willingly acting as my guinea pigs while I was experimenting and learning.
A huge thank you goes to the Mannie family, who trusted me to bake for their wedding. That opportunity not only allowed me to serve their guests but also reignited my love for baking and set me on the path I’m on today.
To my friend who sent me the information for my very first vendor event and encouraged me to go for it—thank you for believing in me when I needed that extra push. To Shana, who elevated my brand and brought my vision to life, and to Katrese, who spent countless hours on the phone with me as we navigated the world of mompreneurship together, thank you for being such a strong support system.
I’m also grateful to YaShica and Tina Marie for always stepping in to help whenever and wherever I needed it, and to Tashawna and Patrice for pushing me, speaking life into me, reminding me of my strength, and holding me accountable. Your belief in me has been a true gift.
Candice and Connie, your unwavering support as two of my biggest cheerleaders has meant so much. And to everyone who has ever supported Crisha’s Tasty Treats—whether you bought some of our soul-snatching good gourmet cupcakes and treats, mentioned us in your stories, tagged us on social media, or recommended us to a friend—thank you. Your support is the reason this business continues to grow.
Finally, and most importantly, my deepest gratitude goes to my life partner and my children. Your love, patience, and support as we navigate this journey together are what keep me going, even on the hardest days. You inspire me to keep pushing forward, and I can’t put into words how much your love and encouragement means to me.
To every person who has played a role in this journey, I truly appreciate you from the bottom of my heart. Crisha’s Tasty Treats is what it is today because of your love, support, and belief in me.
