Life & Work with Chiquita Mcshan of Chattanooga- The Brainerd Area

Today we’d like to introduce you to Chiquita Mcshan

Hi Chiquita, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
My journey started as a kid. I was a teen who dealt with hormonal acne. I always went into pharmacies or general stores picking up skincare products. I would experiment with products to help reduce acne symptoms and pass along the information to my family and friends. That secretly started my passion for skin. On a girls night event, my closest friend at the time, was prepping for the night and began doing her own makeup. I was inspired and asked her to help me my apply makeup as I had never worn it before. That one night opened an entire play field and I slowly began building my makeup kit and career. For about 5-6 years I only did my family and close friends makeup. One random day, I decided to take a leap of faith, attend school and gain my aestheticians license. Fast forward to 4 years later, I’m actually doing something that I really enjoy and love. I find so much joy offering skincare services, most days I don’t notice the amount of time I have spent in my suite helping my clients.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has not been a smooth road. I still have many struggles. Where I come from, our town is small, so gaining consistency has been a struggle within it self. From building a solid clientele, having a heavy influence in beauty industry and even on social media, and then finding the constant funds to support your passion. In life it seems like your passion has to take the back seat until you’re financially stable enough to see the manuals of your labor.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
In a professional aspect I am considered an esthetician, however I personally consider myself a creative. I take pride in getting to know each client individually, their skin type preferences, and different ways of making them feel beautiful. I am more-so known for my makeup abilities, my plan is to become known for my skincare capabilities. The ways I would consider myself as set apart, would be by my consultation process for clients, each client has different focal points and needs. They require different products and techniques which overall allows a unique outcome.

What’s next?
My plan is to expand my service list. I’m working towards adding brow services, lash services, advanced skincare treatments and body enhancing services.
