Today we’d like to introduce you to Jacaleb Smith
JaCaleb, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I had been pondering the thought of starting my brand for some time now. But this past May is when I grew the courage to finally step out into the entrepreneurial world and go for it. What really sparked the extra initiative was when a company I worked for had a company wide layoff. Although my job wasn’t effected at all, seeing how quickly a CEO could fire you without warning reminded me that I can’t depend on a corporation to be my only source of income; especially in today’s economy. So that is a brief backstory as to what sparked the initiative I needed to step out on faith and start my brand called “Antisocial Extrovert”.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
No the road has not been smooth but as we all know, nothing worth having will come easy! One struggle I had was finding a good manufacturer to make my pieces exactly how I wanted them in a timely manner that would meet the deadlines I set out for them. After getting over that hump, I would say the only other struggle I have had would be finding ways to constantly market my brand and pieces creatively.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
I believe my authenticity sets me and my brand apart from. others. Even though I am an up and coming brand, the positive feedback I am already receiving speaks volumes. My personality shows through my artwork as well as the way I communicate with customers. I make every interaction more about connecting personally whereas most people just try to make their money and go on about their day. I want the world to understand the reason why I chose to start the “Antisocial Extrovert” collection. The reason being is because human beings are socially complicated so it’s not that simple to just be grouped as either introverted or extroverted. There are other personality types. The name “Antisocial Extrovert” is an ironic and contradicting ideology, which describes a lively person or a very social person, who has a reserved part that comes into play almost all the time, same time as they are being social. This is basically my brand’s mission statement and it describes me perfectly and I have been referring to myself as such, which is why I decided to start the brand.
Do you any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
Going to Edgewater, Florida and getting a chance to swim. and canoe alongside some Manatees.
