Today we’d like to introduce you to Laquisha Marion
Hi Laquisha, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I actually started loving to perform in high school. I was in a group in which we won several talent shows. It was just something about being seen on a stage and people applauding for you. That was my first love lol. When I moved to Georgia in 2010, I auditioned for this company, and they mentioned to me that I was a natural talent,, but I needed training. I knew nothing about training or acting, so it went in one ear and out the other. Years later, I was styling my client’s hair, i knew that she had been in lots of movies, so I asked her how to get started in pursuing acting? This was her response.. go audition for this role tomorrow afternoon… My response.. HUH?? I knew NOTHING about auditioning nor acting.. she told me the location, I went, signed my name, I looked at all the names that were before me going out for that same role..I was like, oh well, it’s either me or them lol. So I signed my name, went into the audition room, performed it… next thing you know,, my client called me the next day because she knew the writer and the producer,, they had called her and told her about me. They didn’t know that she was my client. So the next day she called me and said “You got the role!!!” I didn’t even know what she was talking about..I was so out of it lol. Then it hit me.. she just said I GOT THE ROLE I AUDITIONED FOR!!!!! I was at work and just burst out crying! My co workers and clients in the shop started congratulating me and hugging me.. my client said when the producer calls me, be surprised and act the same way you are acting now because she wasn’t supposed to tell me. So I did lol. After that role in sept. of 2017, I started in acting school. Been going every since.. I’ve taken breaks but my training is ongoing. I’ve taken several classes that teach different things,, and every bit of it is in my memory bank. So today, I have a feature film out entitled Generations. It was filmed in 2020. It airs on Amazon Prime and Tubi. I’ve done several plays, independent films, background work., I’ve done skits on Kountry Wayne.. (Ms. Marion, First lady or the snapper) I’m currently in a traveling play entitled Why Am I Still Single where I’m a lead character. I’m in a web series entitled Expensive Dreams. Also a comedy sitcom that airs on Amazon entitled Daniel’s Den. I’m far from done.. have a long way to go,, but I’ve also come a long way.. just thanking the Lord for what He’s done so far.. and I’m anticipating the future!
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
No it has not been a smooth road. Some of the obstacles were paying for training, being one of the few older adults in my classes., being last to perform my scene each week,, not performing my scene each week.. being overlooked, my weight, age, not being able to get my inflections right.. not studying the character., getting myself out the way so that I can be the character., starting to give up on myself thinking I can’t do it., watching everybody else succeed but I’m still in the same situation., it’s been a struggle but I keep going! I’ve come too far to quit now. I can actually say that I’m on your tv. Not just wishing and hoping,, but I’m actually there! So that teaches me to be optimistic and to not focus on what’s wrong, but what has already been accomplished.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m a master cosmetologist. I specialize in weaves, short hair, silk presses, cuts and styling. What I’m mostly proud of is when I turn my clients chair around, seeing the smiles on their faces! Some clients have been brought to tears after seeing their hair. Those moments really bring me joy! What sets me apart from others is my heart. I truly care.
What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
I feel that I should always be humble and true. I never want to be haughty or one who’s unreachable, or unteachable. I want to always show love even if it’s in a funny way.
