Exploring Life & Business with Latasha Mccord of Homestyled By L. Nicole

Today we’d like to introduce you to Latasha Mccord

Hi Latasha , thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
My journey into interior design began with an intrinsic passion for aesthetics and a natural fondness to transform spaces. I started by taking on smaller decorating projects for close friends and family as an adolescent, where I gradually built a portfolio overtime. From decorating my maternal grandmother’s table for the holidays to providing insight – all shaped me into the entrepreneur I am today. Additionally, this early experience allowed me to develop a strong understanding of client needs and translate their vision into tangible designs. As I actively sought out opportunities to expand my knowledge while simultaneously transitioning into other professional fields (e.g., marketing education, & federal government), I remained zealous and eager to hone in on my skills in several areas such as creativity, emerging trends, and project management.

As time passed, my confidence flourished enabling me to gain invaluable involvement learning from established professionals and refining my technical abilities. This exposure to diverse design styles and project management practices helped me solidify my own design aesthetic. The ambition and dedication allowed me to eventually birth my own design firm, Homestyled By L. Nicole, where I am able to truly focus on creating personalized spaces that reflect the unique style and lifestyle of each individual client.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
This has not been a smooth road. I have spent days/nights preparing for this opportunity. Therefore, when passion and purpose align you have no choice but to keep propelling forward. I remember thinking of all of the fears and risks: time management, balancing work-life balance, securing funding, expansion, market competition, hiring and managing future employees, adapting to change, implementing effective marketing, and the big one – fear of failure. It seemed that despite it all – the applicable resources were purposely place in my path when the road became uneasy and unclear. I had to truly trust the process. The late Maya Angelou said it best, “You may encounter many defeats, but you must not be defeated, In fact, it may be necessary to encounter the defeats, so you can know who you are, what you can rise from, how you can still come out of it. This quote resonates with and provides the courage to continue plowing.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?

In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
The future of interior design will be driven by technology, sustainability, and personalization. The evolution of technology will enhance designers creativity via the utilization of artifical intelligence and even developing ways for customers to better visualize spaces. Additionally, I believe we’ll move into an era of providing clients with eco-friendly resources and truly embracing more personalized design solutions and smart home integration. A lot of this has already taken place, but it’ll definitely be more of a trend in years to come.
