Today we’d like to introduce you to Johdi Ann Moulton
Hi Johdi Ann, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
My love of photography really blossomed after the birth of my daughter. I thoroughly enjoyed capturing her any chance I got but it wasn’t until friends and family began to suggest that I really had an eye for the skill and should think about pursuing this path did I really decide to give it more attention. So I started by offering free sessions to friends and anyone that wanted any variety of portraits done to build a professional portfolio and improve my level of comfort with a professional camera. Thankfully I wasn’t short of volunteers and got a chance to capture a variety of beautiful moments from newborn sessions to mommy-and-mini and holiday portraits.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The main struggle has been finding the time to commit 100% of myself to this new venture because currently as a SAHM my attention, commitment, and energy go to motherhood. So in a way the struggle has been going back to finding myself through this creative outlet without feeling that guilt I know most mothers can relate to.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
Currently I’m working toward building up my clientele and getting the momentum going with that. Right now most of my advertising is via word of mouth or just offering free or discounted sessions to anyone who wants it. I’m most proud of the fact that I’m putting myself out there towards trying this new career path. Trying new things and change in general can be intimidating so taking this leap of faith and leaving my comfort zone by putting my work out there for everyone to see is something I’m really proud of.
Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
I don’t really put much stock in luck. I’m more a believer in the power of positive manifestation, prayer and being ready for your blessings. I’d say the fact that I have the opportunity to have the freedom and courage to pursue a new dream thanks to my supportive husband is a blessing I don’t take for granted. He’s encouraged me to stick with it, given me his very expensive camera to use with and gifted me a book on photography so with that kind of motivation I know I’m set up for success.
