Hidden Gems: Meet Chef Lowell of Chef Lowell, LLC

Today we’d like to introduce you to Chef Lowell

Hi Chef, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I basically started a dessert business when I was 11 years old. I sold baked goods to my classmates, teachers, family and others in the Vallejo, California community where I’m originally from.

When I was 16 years old, my grandmother asked me to cook for an event she was hosting, so I started a new catering company. It became so successful, I expanded by selling products, which I called ‘CL Products,’ for the cafeteria’s head cook at the school I attended. I hired my friends so they could earn valuable experience. The pound cakes I created while running the company, I use the same recipe for my customers today.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Entrepreneurship is never smooth. Starting a meal prep business before meal prep was popular (back in 2011), growth continues to be a challenge: trying to maintain customer experience and consistency in products, is an ongoing struggle with a high turnover of staff, which is typical in the industry. Another big challenge was purchasing a building and managing it with limited financing.

As you know, we’re big fans of Chef Lowell, LLC. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Chef Lowell, LLC is a catering, personal chef, and meal prep service.

I’m known as a chef that combines skill, creativity and passion into the food I cook and for the specialized and thematic dinners we host as a company.

What sets me apart is consistency and reliability. We have the ability to create and execute what we offer in a short time. I’m proud of the fact that we’ve never given up, despite the challenges we continue to face.

I’d really like folks to know that we’re always ready to give a unique and intentional experience both on the service side and culinary side.

What’s next?
We are planning multiple dinner and hospitality events, revamping our meal prep service, expanding our catering services, launching new products and publishing an interactive cooking book this year. We’re excited that our dinners have become so popular, we’ll be hosting some of them on the west coast this year.
