Hi Dr. Josephine, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Dr. Josephine Harris is a distinguished mental health professional, international bestselling author, and philanthropist. Born and raised in Savannah, Georgia, she has lived in various regions across the United States, including Colorado, Hawaii, California, Florida, South Carolina, and Mississippi. Currently, she resides in Tacoma, Washington.

Dr. Harris’s academic journey is extensive. She earned her Ph.D. in Psychology from Walden University, a Master’s degree in General Psychology, and a Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice Administration from the University of Phoenix. Additionally, she holds a Post-Master Online Teaching Psychology Certificate and a Master of Philosophy in Psychology. Her commitment to education is further demonstrated by certifications in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) and Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL).

Professionally, Dr. Harris has over 15 years of experience in the mental health field. She has worked with more than 150 individuals and families since 2002, utilizing clinically tested and evidence-based interventions. Her areas of expertise include child and adult ADHD, workplace performance, substance abuse and addiction, domestic violence training, and depression. She employs an integrative approach centered on cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) to empower individuals and families to overcome personal obstacles and improve their communication and relationships.

Dr. Harris is also the CEO and Founder of Calming Minds LLC, a multidimensional coaching practice that helps clients connect with their mind, body, and soul through inspiration, facilitation, coaching, and other dynamic mechanisms. Her dedication to mental health advocacy is evident through her involvement with various organizations, including serving on the Board of Directors at SafePlace Olympia, which supports survivors of sexual assault and domestic violence. She is also a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Psi Chi, the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI), and the American Psychological Association, among others.

In addition to her clinical work, Dr. Harris is an accomplished author, having achieved international bestseller status multiple times. She is also a contributing writer for Brainz Magazine and serves as the Regional Vice President (Western area) of the HERpreneur Network.

As a military spouse, she has experienced frequent relocations, which, while offering diverse perspectives, have also posed challenges in adapting to new communities and maintaining continuity in her professional endeavors.

In her early career, Dr. Harris faced the emotional toll of working with clients dealing with severe trauma and mental health issues. This experience underscored the importance of self-care and seeking support to manage the emotional demands of her profession.

Despite these obstacles, Dr. Harris’s resilience and strong work ethic have been pivotal in her success. She emphasizes the importance of perseverance and the ability to rebound from setbacks, viewing challenges as opportunities for growth and learning.

Through these experiences, Dr. Harris has developed a deep understanding of the complexities of mental health and the significance of adaptability and self-awareness in both personal and professional contexts.
