Today we’d like to introduce you to Brianna White
Hi Brianna , so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I started doing makeup on myself about a year after high school, just being a girl exploring new things. I would watch makeup videos on YouTube do my makeup everyday with literally only about 4 or 5 products that I purchased from the drug store. I didn’t have the best makeup products or technique and I was teaching myself from YouTube videos and trial and error but I still got up everyday and did my makeup. It made me feel good. During this time I never imagined that makeup would be such a big part of me, it was definitely just a comforting thing for me at a transitional time in my life.
When I would do my makeup I would get so many compliments and people telling me all the struggles they have when doing their own makeup. I started to realize how talented I actually was and this encouraged me to actually make this a craft. I started doing makeup on my friends whenever they came over my house and we were bored. It was horrible but it got better each time.
Once I started getting more comfortable doing different looks on myself and my friends I decided to create a instagram account separate from my personal account to post my makeup looks. One day this woman asked me to do her makeup for her birthday, and just like that I had my very first makeup client. In my living room with no real setup, no lighting, and essentially no kit. I did her makeup, she loved it, and after that day she booked me to do her makeup about 3 more times that month alone.
At this point I’m 19 years old I don’t quite know what to do with my life and now I have this talent that people are willing to pay me for. So I go for it. I start promoting myself on instagram, practicing on my friends and family and even people I went to high-school with.
Over the years I have continued to build my business by prioritizing customer service, continuously learning new techniques, building relationships with my clients as well as other local makeup artists and entrepreneurs and most importantly, having faith.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Being an entrepreneur is not an easy journey. It’s more difficult coming from where I come from when the odds are already stacked against you and the people around you may not always understand or support your vision. So yes, I have had many struggles on this road.
A few months after starting my makeup business I got pregnant. So between being sick, exhausted and working my regular job I had little to no time for my craft. I can count on one hand how many clients I had during my pregnancy.
A few months after giving birth in September of 2019 I started to feel like myself again, I have the energy to pour into my business now. Then COVID happened and nobody was allowed to go anywhere essentially so business is slow. I still have a few clients and this time I can probably count on two hands the amount of clients I had during the pandemic.
Two years post pandemic my family decides to relocate about an hour from where I established my business. Most of my clients were not willing to travel that far so now I am building a whole new clientele in a new area where I know only about 5 people.
April of 2024 I decided to change the scenery completely and move out of state. So I left Florida and moved to Atlanta where I am currently building a whole new clientele once again.
I have had many challenges but I am a firm believer that nothing worth having comes easy so I am willing to push through every obstacle thrown my way to reach my full potential.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a makeup artist. I specialize in helping women feel beautiful for the most important moments in their lives. I do makeup for all events from weddings, parties, prom to photoshoots, birthdays and business events. I am known for clean, natural and glamorous makeup looks that are flexible and long lasting. I am most proud of the connections I build with my clients and that they know they can count on me, I take pride in all that I have put into my craft and how I treat the people who choose to work with me. I am able to celebrate my peers while being motivated and knowing that I can conquer all things.
We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
I would define success as being in alignment with God and establishing whatever it is I set out to do without compromising my core. Staying true to who I am. Success is not only reaching my goals or attaining a certain amount of wealth, but doing so with my soul in tact. In confidence that I do good business, have great relationships, actual principles and integrity.
