Today we’d like to introduce you to Francis Nwosu
Hi Francis, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Francis Nwosu: A Journey Through Lens and Light
I first picked up a camera in 2018, not knowing it would change my life. Growing up, I was always drawn to the images I saw in magazines and movies, but I never explored photography or filmmaking. It wasn’t until I started shooting that I realized how much I connected with emotion and narrative—how a single frame could tell a story, how light and shadow could shape a feeling.
What started as a creative outlet soon turned into something bigger. Proper Standards isn’t just a name or an Instagram handle; it’s the foundation of everything I do. It’s a commitment to excellence, to intentional storytelling, and to capturing the world honestly—its beauty, its struggles, its raw emotions.
As a Black man, I know the narrative that we struggle with vulnerability and emotion. In some ways, that’s true. But through my work, I fight against that every day. I want my images—both still and moving—to show the depth of our emotions, our stories, our humanity.
For me, being an artist isn’t just about creating. It’s about sharing a piece of myself with the world and hoping that it resonates with someone. I do this because I love it, because it matters, and because ultimately, I do it all to the glory of GOD.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Francis Nwosu: Breaking Barriers Through Art
One of my biggest challenges came when I realized that in order to create the work I truly wanted, I had to find a way to monetize my craft. Passion alone wasn’t enough—I needed to turn my art into something sustainable.
The world of fine arts, especially in film and photography, has long been dominated by majority culture. As a man of color stepping into these spaces, I rarely saw myself represented. It didn’t stop me from creating, but it was a mental barrier I had to overcome. I had to believe that I belonged, even when the industry didn’t make space for me.
There’s a deep level of inequity in the art world, especially for BIPOC creatives. Growing up, being an artist wasn’t presented as a real option—unless it was tied to hip-hop culture. But for me, photography and filmmaking are personal. It’s bigger than just making a living; it’s about showing young men who look like me that success isn’t limited to a single path.
I create to tell stories, to challenge perspectives, and to prove that we can succeed doing ANYTHING.
We’ve been impressed with Proper Standards Photography , but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Proper Standards Photography: Capturing Truth Through Stills & Motion
Proper Standards Photography is more than just my business—it’s my passion, my purpose, and the standard I hold myself to in every project. From the moment I picked up a camera, I knew I wanted to do more than just take pictures or shoot videos. I wanted to tell stories that matter, capture real emotion, and create visuals that leave an impact.
Whether I’m working with small businesses, creative agencies, or major brands, my approach is always the same—intentional, professional, and rooted in authenticity. Every frame I capture is a reflection of my commitment to excellence, my love for storytelling, and my belief that the best work comes from a place of purpose.
At the heart of Proper Standards is the belief that creativity and quality go hand in hand. This isn’t just about visuals—it’s about capturing moments that mean something. And for me, that’s everything.
How do you think about luck?
I don’t believe in luck respectfully; I believe in GOD’s Providence and Provision.
