Today we’d like to introduce you to Rob Malloy
Hi Rob, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I am the youngest of four children, born in Providence, Rhode Island, where the echoes of my family’s history still resonate. My father, a retired Navy veteran with over 30 years of dedicated service to our country, instilled in me the values of hard work, discipline, and unwavering commitment. My mother, shaped by the legacy of her own mother, passed down the core values that have guided me throughout my life: dignity, value, self-worth, and respect for others.
My maternal grandmother, Ms. Lashie Mangum, was a trailblazer in her own right. In 1935, she and my grandfather migrated from Wake County, North Carolina, to Rhode Island in search of opportunity. They both found work at the Walsh-Kaiser Shipyard in Providence, a critical hub for wartime production during World War II. My grandmother made history as the shipyard’s first African American female welder, a testament to her skill and determination in a male-dominated field. My grandfather, a certified burner, rose through the ranks to become a foreman, demonstrating his leadership and expertise.
Their legacy of hard work, resilience, and unwavering values has been a guiding force in my life. Like my father and sister before me, I chose to serve my country through military service, enlisting in the Air Force. As a medic, I had the privilege of caring for others, an experience that deepened my passion for service and instilled in me the importance of compassion and empathy.
Life’s journey has taken me on unexpected paths, filled with both joys and challenges. Fatherhood came early for me, and by the age of 30, I was blessed with four wonderful children – three daughters and a son. The discovery of my son’s existence when he was a toddler brought about a unique set of circumstances, and admittedly, our relationship was distant during his childhood. However, fate intervened when he turned 18, and we finally met in person. That meeting sparked a profound connection, and today, in 2025, we co-host a wildly popular podcast, “Pops and Son Conversations,” sharing our story of reconciliation, growth, and the complexities of father-son relationships. Our journey has even led us to the exciting realm of television, as we are currently filming a series by the same name.
My passion for service extends beyond my family and my work in media. After my military service, I worked in oncology, witnessing firsthand the resilience of the human spirit in the face of adversity. This experience further fueled my desire to make a positive impact on the world.
Today, as a social media influencer, actor, and radio personality, I am committed to using my platform to serve my community. Through “Pops and Son Conversations,” I strive to create a space for open dialogue and healing, addressing the challenges and triumphs of family relationships. My Divorce Mentorship Group, “Thriving After Divorce,” provides support and guidance to those navigating the complexities of separation and divorce. As a financial literacy coach, I empower individuals to take control of their finances and build a more secure future. And as a co-founder of Keeping Veterans Fit, Inc., I am dedicated to supporting the physical and mental well-being of our veterans.
My journey has been one of growth, purpose, and a commitment to serving others. It’s a testament to the values instilled in me by my family, the lessons learned through military service and healthcare, and the transformative power of connection and communication. I am dedicated to using my platform to inspire others, promote healing, and empower individuals to achieve their full potential. The journey continues, and I am excited to see what the future holds.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Has it been a smooth road? Absolutely not. Life, as I’ve come to learn, rarely follows a straight and predictable path. My journey has been filled with twists, turns, and unexpected detours, some exhilarating, others heartbreaking.
There have been moments of doubt, fear, and uncertainty. Times when the weight of responsibility felt overwhelming, and the path forward seemed obscured by shadows. There have been relationships that strained and fractured, leaving behind scars that still ache. There have been financial struggles, moments of self-doubt, and the pain of losing loved ones.
But through it all, I’ve come to realize that the bumps, bruises, and even the broken bones along the way were not in vain. They were necessary for my growth, for shaping me into the man I am today. They were the crucible in which my character was forged, the lessons that could only be learned through living life, not simply observing it.
Those challenges forced me to confront my fears, to question my assumptions, and to dig deep within myself to find the strength and resilience to keep moving forward. They taught me the true meaning of perseverance, the importance of forgiveness, and the transformative power of vulnerability.
Looking back, I can honestly say that I am blessed to have experienced those struggles. They have given me a deeper appreciation for the joys and triumphs in life, a profound empathy for others who are facing their own challenges, and an unwavering faith that all things work together for my good.
So no, it hasn’t been a smooth road, but I wouldn’t trade it for anything. It’s the journey, with all its imperfections and unexpected turns, that has made me who I am today. And for that, I am eternally grateful.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
My work is a tapestry woven from threads of service, creativity, and connection. It’s an ever-evolving expression of my passion for using my voice and experiences to inspire, empower, and uplift others. I wear many hats – social media influencer, actor, radio personality, podcast host, mentor, and coach – but at the heart of it all lies a deep commitment to serving my community and making a positive impact on the world.
I specialize in creating authentic and engaging content that resonates with my audience. Whether I’m sharing my personal journey on social media, exploring the complexities of father-son relationships on my podcast, “Pops and Son Conversations,” or guiding individuals through the challenges of divorce in my mentorship group, “Thriving After Divorce,” I strive to be transparent, vulnerable, and relatable. I believe that by sharing my own experiences, both triumphs and struggles, I can create a space for others to feel seen, heard, and understood.
I’m known for my authenticity, my humor, and my unwavering commitment to service. I’m not afraid to be vulnerable, to share my imperfections, and to let my audience see the real me, flaws and all. I believe that this authenticity is what allows me to connect with people on a deeper level and build genuine relationships.
What am I most proud of? It’s difficult to choose just one accomplishment, but I would say that I’m most proud of the impact that “Pops and Son Conversations” has had on others. The podcast, which I co-host with my son, has become a platform for open dialogue about father-son relationships, reconciliation, and personal growth. We’ve received countless messages from listeners who have been touched by our story, sharing how it has helped them to heal, to connect with their own fathers or sons, and to find hope and inspiration in their own lives.
What sets me apart from others? I believe it’s my unique blend of experiences, my passion for service, and my commitment to authenticity. I’ve worn many hats in my life – medic, oncology worker, father, husband, divorcee, social media influencer, actor, and radio personality – and each of these experiences has shaped me and given me a unique perspective on the world. I bring this diverse perspective to my work, allowing me to connect with a wide range of people and address a variety of issues with empathy and understanding.
What am I most known for? Hmmmm, it would have to be being Your Favorite Silverfox! I do so many other things, but when people see me out, they almost always say, “Hey, aren’t you that Silverfox guy?” So, at this point, I have embraced it. I am Your Favorite Silverfox, Rob Malloy.
Ultimately, my work is about connection, growth, and making a positive impact on the world. It’s about using my voice and my platform to inspire others, to promote healing, and to empower individuals to achieve their full potential. The journey continues, and I am excited to see where it leads.
Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
Finding a mentor and building a strong network are invaluable investments in your personal and professional growth. It may sound a little like a teacher giving a lecture, but here’s my advice, based on my own experiences:
When it comes to finding a Mentor:
Identify Your Needs: First, clarify what you’re looking for in a mentor. What areas do you want to grow in? What skills do you want to develop? What kind of guidance are you seeking?
Look for Alignment: Seek out individuals who have achieved what you aspire to, but also those whose values and approach resonate with you. A mentor should not only be knowledgeable but also someone you respect and trust.
Be Proactive: Don’t wait for a mentor to fall into your lap. Reach out to people you admire, express your interest in learning from them, and be clear about what you’re hoping to gain from the relationship.
Value Their Time: Mentors are busy people, so be respectful of their time and commitments. Come prepared to meetings, be clear about your goals, and follow through on any commitments you make.
Show Gratitude: Express your appreciation for their guidance and support. A simple thank you can go a long way in building a strong and lasting mentor-mentee relationship.
Now, networking in general has some standards that you have to master early in the game. You really only have 1 time to make a 1st impression.
Be Genuine: Networking is about building authentic relationships, not just collecting business cards. Be yourself, show genuine interest in others, and focus on building connections, not just making contacts.
Attend Events: Attend industry events, conferences, and workshops to meet new people and expand your network. Be proactive, introduce yourself, and engage in conversations.
Online Networking: Utilize online platforms like LinkedIn to connect with professionals in your field. Join relevant groups, participate in discussions, and share your own insights and experiences.
Follow Up: After meeting someone new, follow up with a personalized message or email to keep the connection alive. Offer to help them in any way you can, and stay in touch periodically.
Give Back: Networking is a two-way street. Be willing to help others, offer advice, and share your resources. The more you give, the more you’ll receive in return.
Please understand that there is a difference between a mentor and a role model. It’s important to distinguish between mentors and role models. A role model is someone you admire and look up to, but you may not have a personal relationship with them. A mentor, on the other hand, is someone who provides guidance, support, and advice based on their own experiences and expertise. So when you are trying to break into a new area, you need a mentor to help guide you, so you avoid some of the mistakes that they made in the process of getting where you are striving to get.
Both mentors and role models are important, but mentorship offers a unique level of personalized guidance and support that can accelerate your growth and development. A mentor can help you navigate challenges, identify opportunities, and make informed decisions, drawing on their own experiences and insights.
Why Mentorship Matters
Mentorship has been invaluable in my own journey. My mentors have provided me with guidance, encouragement, and a sounding board for my ideas. They have challenged me to step outside my comfort zone, to take risks, and to pursue my goals with passion and perseverance. They have also offered a listening ear, a shoulder to lean on, and a source of wisdom and support during challenging times. My mentors have NOT and I mean NOT been yes, people. They have been some of my biggest supporters.
I encourage everyone to seek out mentors who can guide them on their journey. The right mentor can make all the difference in your personal and professional development, helping you to achieve your full potential and create a life of purpose and fulfillment.
