Today we’d like to introduce you to Caitlin Waldrip
Hi Caitlin, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I was a newly licensed doctor and I worked for another company for a few years while raising a baby. After multiple hurdles, I opened my own practice so I could have the flexibility necessary in raising a child and alternating schedules. I decided on an area that is closer to family to have help if necessary for early marketing events when I couldn’t bring my kids. I pounded the ground in my first year in practice and shook a lot of hands to let people know I was here. After the first year, the business transitioned into a slowly but steadily self maintaining practice where patients send in friends and family, patients find my in their insurance network and highly rated on Google. Now, I just have fun in business and not sweat the little things.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It has not been the smoothest to get up and going. I was discriminated against as a woman who can bare children and turned away from positions for being pregnant or harassed for wanting more children. That is when I decided I needed to be my own boss and set a new standard for women in business, women who raise families, and women supporting other women. Once I established my location, I brought in sublease tenants to share the space with me like massage therapists, a reiki practitioner, health coach, and have watched and encouraged them to grow their business to fit their needs in business and personal life.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a Chiropractor. I specialize in whole body biomechanics and spinal correction. I analyze the whole body for patterns of biomechanical instability and imbalances that cause us to have back pain, neck pain, hip pain and such. To correct these insufficient patterns, I use my hands and other tools to align the spine and extremities into a more functional and appropriate manner for proper function.
I have raised my family next to me and I’m very proud of having my children watch my office grow, and my patients look forward to seeing them at their visits. My children are learning to care for others and follow instruction in a very different way than the normal experience. My kids have pushed the xray button with me, carried heat packs for the patients, assisted in patient flow, washed tables, listened to heart beats with a stethoscope, and learning bed-side manner is mandatory to interact with patients. Their toys are often a representation of my tools. I enjoy seeing them grow and thrive under a roof where I can teach them something they will have for their whole life.
Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
I have had a few mentors while in school and in business. Dr. Dave who works around the corner from me, has supported me from early on in practice and if I ever need anything I can call him. We have cared for each other professionally since the beginning and I will always be thankful for him. And even though I struggled in the beginning, I thank those who I did not have great experiences with because I still learn from that experience, even if it’s what not to do.
