Check Out Brittany Myra Smith’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brittany Myra Smith

Hi Brittany , it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Like many of us, I had a dream of being a famous actress! Well, I have been acting for half of my life now. Not quite where I thought I would be by this age, but I have been working up and down the East Coast and it’s been a journey. I’ve discovered along the way, that I’ll never get the parts I know I can do. It’s not because I’m not a good actor… it’s because of my appearance. I have been told over and over “WOW you were good, but you don’t fit what we are looking for”. If I had a nickel every time I have heard that! I have said this a thousand times, size-wise, I am too big to be “small” and I am too small to be “big” So people never know where to put me. I hate appearances have so much of an impact on the world. Not just the film world.
So my husband got tired of seeing me putting in so much effort with little return on bookings. His brain did scientific work and we created Dreakul FIlms. Now we are making movies and making moves! I have been able to showcase some of my work through our films and that has led to more bookings. Funny how I have waited so long for someone to take a chance on me, not knowing that it would be my husband and myself who would open those doors for me.

In Spring 2025, We are about to start our Appalachian horror film titled Haunt Ma. Our filmmaking tactic is reaching out to the underdogs, the actors, the crew, and the artists with little experience and getting them on our sets. There is a whole world of talent and we are trying to find them and showcase them. People just need a little push sometimes, even if you have to give that little push to yourself.

If you want to work with us reach out and find us at Draekul Films.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
On any journey, I don’t believe any road is a completely smooth one. There will always be obstacles along the way. Truthfully the biggest struggle is dealing with people. Humans are interesting beings. Especially in the film industry, you have to deal with people. A LOT. Some are great, but some do make that journey a little harder. I can’t begin to tell you how many times I have wanted to give up because of dealing with some bad apples. But at the end of the day, I remind myself I am stronger than I think and then I get up and try again. You have to believe in yourself, hold your head up high, and keep pushing through.

As Dolly Parton said, “If you want the rainbow, you got to put up with the rain.”

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am an actor and recently a filmmaker. I have worked on big projects down to small indie productions. I love every aspect of creating a movie. I am mostly known for the crazy characters that I get to play. In the spooky season months, I am also a scare-actor. It is the best therapy in the world to scare the bejesus out of someone. It’s Halloween every day for some of us!

I have worked on a few sets where I even creeped out the crew!! Job well done I say! I truly enjoy character acting. It doesn’t always have to be the horror characters. I am also quite fond of the kooky and crazy, toss in a hippy-dippy role too, and it’s a good resume! Horror tends to find me more often because I am an actor who isn’t afraid to get dirty, literally. Toss me in the dirt, add blood, or have a full-body costume. I got you covered! I love it when someone doesn’t recognize me on the screen, and it’s the best reaction when they find out it’s me!

This will sound cheezy but I am most proud of what my husband and myself are doing. We are creating everything on our own. We are bringing these crazy worlds to life for people to watch and enjoy. One thing that I know will always stay with us is being humble. If our company ever makes it to the big leagues of filmmakers we will still fight for the ones who don’t get many chances. We will always pick who is best for the project and not choose based on unnecessary characteristics or popularity. It’s time for us smaller creative artists to shine bright.

Are there any books, apps, podcasts or blogs that help you do your best?
Besides just googling everything, ha! There is a book I have that I read to my son. “Everything I need to know I learned from a little golden book” by Diane Muldrow. It sums up how to just be a good human. We could all use that right now.
