Conversations with RJ White

Today we’d like to introduce you to RJ White

Hi RJ, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Since I was six years old, I knew I wanted to own a sports team. I remember telling my dad one morning—I made him late for work and all (lol)—but from that moment, I never lost sight of that dream. Seeing my mom as an entrepreneur inspired me. Do you remember Avon? Yeah, that hustle was serious! For some, that was their first taste of entrepreneurship—even if they didn’t realize it at the time. sports and BTS inspired me, and I always wanted to elevate what I was seeing. I always felt like it wasnt enough of an experience.

As I got older, my entrepreneurial spirit took over. At 16, I started my first company, in credit repair, property management and helping military families manage their homes and finances while their loved ones were deployed. It was important to me to be there for them, especially when they didn’t have a spouse or family to rely on.

At the same time, I realized my dream of owning a sports team was still alive. I started having conversations with different leagues until I connected with the American Basketball Association (ABA). After a pivotal leadership change in the 2000s, the league was primed for growth. In 2013, I bought my franchise, and by 2014, we kicked off our first season. Fast forward to 2024, and I celebrated my 10-year anniversary in the league as the youngest female team owner at the time. Over the years, we’ve reached 3.1 million in analytics, expanded to four countries, and sold out games with standing-room-only crowds. We became more than just a team—we became a community leader, hosting pep rallies, teacher games, backpack drives, and Christmas giveaways. We were even recognized as Lake County’s official pro men’s team and honored by the Mayor of Gurnee.

Now, we’re taking it even further. We’ve transitioned the team to London and Japan and are buying into a bigger league, with plans to establish a team in Atlanta. My passion for innovation has always been a driving force. I remember asking my sister for The Sims when I was younger—I was obsessed with the “dress your avatar” feature. That fascination eventually evolved into something bigger. In 2017, we partnered with Microsoft to host the first-ever basketball meet-and-greet in a VR space. That moment sparked my full embrace of digital and virtual worlds.
And now, I’m making history again.

I’m building the first-ever Multiverse Arena, a revolutionary fusion of sports, entertainment, and technology. This isn’t just about the future—it’s about creating the future. And leading the way is Posh, who made history as the first digital avatar ever signed to a professional modeling agency, created in my likeness. I figured if I was going to digitize my players, I needed to try it myself first. Posh is breaking boundaries in fashion, gaming, and UGC, making appearances in NYFW, FWSD, LAFW, Roblox, Fortnite, Zepeto, and GTA 6.

From day one, my mission has been clear: to innovate, evolve, and build experiences that connect “The Culture” and communities in ways never seen before.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It hasn’t always been a smooth road, but it’s been an amazing journey! I’ve traveled to 81 countries, and one thing I’ve learned is that it’s often harder to dominate your backyard than your front yard. Challenges are part of the process, especially as a woman in sports and technology—and even more so as a Black woman. I wasn’t always privy to things like funding and networking, but along the way, I discovered the power of capital, connections, and community.

One of the biggest lessons I learned? Marketing is vital. I remember my first game—I did everything to make it happen, but I forgot one pivotal piece: marketing. Let’s just say… the crowd was a little light (okay, there were two people in the stands). But I learned fast. We went from two people in the crowd to over 3.1 million people visiting our site, selling out stadiums overseas and at home.

And through it all, I’ve balanced being a mom. I travel with my family, and while it’s been an adventure, we’ve made it work and had a blast along the way!

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m an entrepreneur with a huge passion for sports, technology, innovation, and youth empowerment. I specialize in sports, tech, and entrepreneurship, and I’m best known for creating exciting, unique experiences —whether it’s at our games, through travel, with our amazing global sponsors, or by bridging the digital world with real-life impact. From owning a professional sports team to building the first-ever Multiverse Arena, I’m always pushing the limits, but my ultimate goal is Tier 1 Team ownership.

What I’m most proud of is the global community I’ve been able to build. Whether it’s with my sports teams or reaching over 81 countries, my focus has always been on creating experiences that resonate deeply with people. I’m especially excited about Posh, the first digital avatar ever signed to a professional modeling agency—she’s setting new standards in fashion, gaming, UGC, and phygital (physical and digital) experiences.

What really sets me apart is my ability to blend multiple worlds—sports, tech, and culture—into engaging experiences that speak to everyone. I’m all about innovation and evolution, always seeking new ways to bring people together and create memorable, impactful moments. Whether I’m leading a team, creating new tech, or empowering others, my mission is simple: create opportunities that bring friends and families together, uplift the youth and communities.

We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
Success, to me, is about creating a legacy that both you and your family can be proud of. It’s about bringing a vision to life and watching it make a real impact on others—especially those who didn’t even realize they needed it, but end up loving it. It’s that moment when your hard work transforms into something that resonates deeply and improves lives, leaving a lasting mark on the world.
