Hidden Gems: Meet Trejohn Skinner of TreeHouse Creatives LLC.

Today we’d like to introduce you to Trejohn Skinner

Trejohn, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
For most of my life, I knew I would be involved in the arts, specifically in music. I joined band and choir in middle school, and that passion carried into high school. I attended New Manchester High School, where I was part of the fine arts program, FAME. Within FAME, I was a choir major, but I didn’t stop there—I was also in the marching band, participated in several musical theater productions, and was a member of the world-renowned a cappella group, InToneNation. Through these experiences, I was introduced to the behind-the-scenes aspects of music and performance, which sparked a deeper interest.

After high school, I attended Berry College, initially majoring in Music Education. I began taking education courses, but in 2020, when COVID hit, everything changed. With most of the world stuck at home, I took the opportunity to learn something new. I purchased Apple’s DAW, Logic Pro, and started experimenting. I practiced every day, mixing projects for my musician friends, and quickly developed a passion for music production. This shift led me to change my major to Music Business, where I studied the industry from a broader perspective and took Music Technology courses to deepen my skills.

During COVID, live performances were put on hold, so I pitched the idea of creating music videos to my choir professor. With no prior experience in video production, I knew it would be a challenge—but I was up for it. I created my first video, and my professor loved it, which led to me producing more videos for the music program. Video production soon became another skill I carried with me.

As I neared graduation, I had to figure out my next steps. By then, I knew I was passionate about music and video production, and I also had a strong creative eye. Wanting to take my skills more seriously, I began investing in equipment for both fields, including a new camera. While I initially bought it for video work, I started experimenting with photography, and my creative vision helped me transition naturally into that space as well.

I’ve always known that my skills needed to come together in the right way, which is why I started TreeHouse Creatives LLC. It’s a space for artists and creators to collaborate, produce, and bring their ideas to life—whether in music, content creation, or multimedia production. My goal is to build a creative community where people can express themselves and grow in their craft.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. Building something meaningful—especially in the creative industry—comes with a lot of challenges. There have been moments where I felt like I had to prove myself over and over again just to be taken seriously, and that can be exhausting. But I’ve always been determined to push through, no matter the obstacles.

Balancing multiple jobs while trying to build my own brand and creative company has also been tough. It’s a lot of late nights, trial and error, and moments of doubt. There have been times when I questioned whether I was on the right path, but my passion for creating and bringing people together always kept me going. Funding, networking, and finding the right people to align with my vision haven’t always been easy either, but every challenge has taught me something valuable. Through it all, I’ve learned resilience, adaptability, and the importance of staying true to my purpose—creating spaces where creatives can thrive together.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?

So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
What matters most to me is building a real sense of community in the creative industry. I’ve always been the type of person who brings people together, and it’s frustrating how the industry can feel more like a competition than a space for collaboration. I truly believe we can do so much more when we support, inspire, and create with each other instead of working against one another.
