Conversations with Rex Griffin

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rex Griffin

Hi Rex, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
My journey started off with the need to market my music in the beginning of the pandemic which led me to picking up my first full frame camera that was the Sony A7iii. I took a chance buying that camera with credit that I didn’t have at the moment, but I knew and trusted that God would provide a way for me to make it work. That camera instantly unlucked my passion for shooting beautiful street photography and short form videos that helped me ultimately get accepted in the One School Portfolio Program. The program taught me how to think of big ideas and concept for big brands like Telfar and Spotify. It was truly life changing for me to see that there was a field for creative people like myself that I didn’t know existed. I’ve been longing for the type of career that I’ve been blessed to be apart of now. My mission statement fot the One School program was for me to be able to make culturally driven work that could stop viewers in their tracks along with bringing in other lost creatives searching for the opportunity to enter this amazing field. I have since then gained the opportunity to work on market leading brands that one could only dream of being apart of with campaigns made for Gatorade, Coca-Cola, Minute Maid, Jack In The Box, and Red Baron. In addition to working for Agency powerhouses like TBWA/Chiat /Day LA and VML I also mentor young creatives trying to break into this career because it’s important for me to pay it forward such as the amazing creatives that I’ve been fortunate enough to get mentored by myself.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
No, the road for me has never been a smooth one. I’ve had to scratch and claw and soul search to get to where I’m at today, but that’s what I’m used to, to be realistic. I’ve never been scared to put in the work that it takes to be successful since a young kid I adopted the mentality that the results will work themselves out when you put in the right amount of time and effort to make it happen. It takes 10,000 hours to master anything so I’m just willing to keep learning and pushing while being a true student of the game and not cheating the sport.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m a visual storyteller based out of Atlanta, Ga with a passion for film, sports, music, and technology. My job title is Art Director and I specialize in everything artistic from photography to videography, graphic design to brand identity. I’m most proud of delivering culturally relevant campaigns that resignate with a diverse audience. The thing that sets me apart is my resilience to never give up no matter how tough the brief or situation may be, I always find a way to stay calm and come up with solutions that pushes the boundaries of the project.

If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
I was always curious about a variety of things and questioned everything. Growing up I had an affinity for sports, music, gaming, and movies. My personality has always been confident and empathetic because I excelled in most things I put my mind. Younger me would stay late after track and football practice to run extra bleachers and suicides because I knew it would help me push past exhaustion when the game and the race was on the line. I also really appreciated Anime, Star Wars, Harry Potter, Comic Books and anything you could think of in between. I watched a ton of survival shows which probably came for me participating in boy scouts and working my way up to the Arrow of Light. I also traveled growing up being good at sports and I was featured in the newspaper for track along with running in the Junior Olympics and National track meets being Nationally ranked as one the fastest kids in the nation.
