Today we’d like to introduce you to Lecasshius Stargell
lecasshius , we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I started in the music industry with a deep passion for music, and it all began when I was around 17 or 18 years old. Back then, the internet wasn’t the driving force for finding new talent like it is today. Instead, the streets, clubs, and DJs held more value. This made the transition to the digital age challenging, but the love for the music kept me moving forward.
I began by throwing parties with Richkidz and getting to know local talent. At the time, DC Young Fly was an up-and-coming artist in Atlanta before his comedic career took off. I was booking legends like Trouble, Joe Gutta (Joe Gifted), Teezy Dolla, Yung LA, Young Thug, Johnny Cinco, and many others. These artists had their neighborhoods on lock, and the parties I hosted were consistently packed, often with over 400 people in attendance. It was at these events that I learned the true power of a crowd—seeing firsthand how a good record could bring people together and “break” a song by getting everyone in sync with it.
Over the years, I honed my ear for music, finding records and helping artists take them to the next level. But after a while, I realized it was time to turn my passion into a business. At the time, we knew little about the business side of the music industry, so learning the ropes became a priority. I wanted to understand what I was up against and how to make a lasting impact.
Fast forward to today, I’m an established record executive with my own distribution and publishing company, Element. I’m also an A&R and a partner with major industry players like Roc Nation, Connect Music Group, Republic Records, Duetti, Freebandz, and LiveMixtapes.
Looking back, I feel incredibly blessed by the early struggles that shaped my journey. They pushed me to work harder and think smarter. Today, my focus is on breaking through with that number-one Billboard-charting song or album, and I’m determined to keep pushing forward and elevate both my career and the artists I work with.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
My journey in the music industry? Oh, it has definitely not been a smooth road—not at all. I can laugh about it now, but to be honest, it’s been a real rollercoaster. Learning the business side of music was one of the toughest challenges, especially with all the technical terminology. It felt like a whole different language.
But here’s the thing: once I started asking the right questions and studying the right things, everything changed. I began to see the music business through a completely different lens. It wasn’t about just knowing the music or the artists anymore—it was about understanding the infrastructure that supported it.
Looking back, I realize the reason it wasn’t smooth early on was because I didn’t have the knowledge I needed. I was doing things without fully understanding the “why” and “how” behind them. Nowadays, it’s still not smooth sailing by any means, but it’s a luxury bed compared to the rocky start I had. The things I struggled with early on—copyrights, publishing, the black box—are no longer mysteries to me, and that makes all the difference.
So while it’s still a grind, the knowledge I’ve gained makes it feel like I’m navigating the industry with a map, instead of trying to figure it all out on my own. It’s a tough journey, but now I can look back and see how far I’ve come. And I’m definitely better for it.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Element Distribution and Publishing is a company founded by record executive Ceodollasign, alongside partners from Roc Nation and Republic Records. It’s an innovative, forward-thinking label that blends the traditional values of artist development and strategic rollouts with the flexibility and freedom that today’s artists crave.
We pride ourselves on operating like an old-school Motown label in many ways—focused on nurturing talent and guiding artists to their full potential—but with a modern twist. We provide artists with the opportunity to not only create and perform but also to understand the inner workings of the music industry. Through hands-on experience, we teach them about analytics, publishing, and the infrastructure that drives the business.
At Element, we’re not just about getting an artist to the next level; we’re about giving them the tools, knowledge, and resources to navigate their careers with confidence. The goal is to empower artists and creatives, allowing them to make informed decisions and take control of their path. We believe in a strategic, yet empowering approach, helping artists grow both creatively and professionally while giving them more freedom to shape their careers.
Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
My advice to anyone starting in the music business—or really any business, for that matter—is simple: study what you’re trying to do. Don’t just dive in without a solid understanding of the craft you’re chasing. Take the time to learn the ins and outs, master the skills, and educate yourself on the industry you’re entering.
Perfecting your craft isn’t just about the talent you bring to the table; it’s about knowing the work behind it, the strategies, and the business side that supports it. Success isn’t just about raw passion; it’s about being informed and putting in the work to stay ahead. So take the time, do your research, and be relentless in learning—because that’s what will give you the edge and set you up for long-term success.
