Today we’d like to introduce you to Pamela Byrd
Hi Pamela, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I grew up in different parts of the country. I attended 13 schools by the time I graduated high school. That alone has it’s advantages and disadvantages. I went into corporate America and eventually landed a position in Training and Development. Since that time, I have been training and coaching ever since. I obtained my coaching certification in 2007 and started my coaching practice at that time. Over the past 18 years, I have come to understand that many people are unable to pursue their dreams and goals because they can’t set healthy boundaries. Further observations, due to my own experiences, has helped me to understand that it’s difficult to set healthy boundaries if you have unresolved childhood trauma.
in 2021, my twin sister committed suicide. It was at that time, I knew I had a message to share. I wanted my sister to know her life mattered, so I wrote and published my first book, “I Had a Twin, Disrupting the Cycle of Childhood Trauma” to help people understand how the residual effects of trauma play out in our behavior every day and causes us to unconsciously create collateral damage in the lives of everyone around us.
I now help people (particularly women) to understand how their unresolved painful experiences are influencing their unwanted outcomes. I do this through coaching, a podcast and a private Facebook Group.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I believe everyone who is following their purpose has to travel on a bumpy road towards their destination. There are disruptions and distractions that can either veer or throw us off course. I am no different. I’ve had to go through growing up in a dysfunctional environment, my own two divorces, dealing with my two children and their estranged father, dealing with the residual effects of my own childhood traumas.
But I believe that everything we go through is part of a bigger plan, a piece of a really large puzzle, so to speak, and it’s never just about us. So, I push through, keeping sight of my goals knowing that everything I go through is part of God’s bigger plan to get me where He needs me to be, based on the gifts he has entrusted to me.
We’ve been impressed with Byrd’s Eye View, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Boundaries Coach, Journaling Practitioner, Podcast Host of “Let’s Talk Boundaries,” and published author.
As a Boundaries Coach over the past 18 years, I have helped women understand how their past experiences have influenced their current reality. As a result, hundreds of women have gained victory and are now living life on their terms.
In my first published book “I Had a Twin: Disrupting the Cycle of Childhood Trauma,” I shed light on my twin sister’s recent suicide. Because of my experiences and the battles she overcame growing up in the same highly dysfunctional environment, I am committed to helping others who are dealing with the residual effects of painful childhood experiences.
I am known for helping people to recognize what boundaries are and the boundaries needed in their lives so they can move beyond their current reality.
What sets me apart is my narrow niche. Many people talk about boundaries as an ancillary topic, I not only focus on helping women to delve deeper into why the boundaries they need to set are difficult, until they understand how their past experiences may prevent them from setting them. But more specifically, the difference between the internal and external boundaries and how they both play a role in their outcomes.
“Let’s Talk Boundaries”, my brand. When someone hears this, they realize the boundaries they fail to set, and want to know more about setting the boundaries that will benefit them. We set boundaries every day. If we recognized each boundary we set, it would give us the courage to set more of the right boundaries without the fear of retaliation in one form or another.
I facilitate a private FB Group “Let’s Talk Boundaries” with 1.5k members who are interested in setting healthy boundaries. Anyone (even men) is welcome to join as long as they answer the entry questions. Every Wednesday I go LIVE in the group to answer questions from the group to address their questions and challenges with people dynamics or circumstances that are causing them frustrations.
I also have a Podcast, “Let’s Talk Boundaries”, where I share perspectives and teach the mindset behind setting boundaries and interview powerful women who share their stories of victory in becoming successful in their perspective areas based on the past issues they have learned to work through and the boundaries that have learned to set as a result.
With 15 years of experience in corporate training and development, I have created curriculum for my clients to work through different areas of their lives where boundaries are so important. I have an e-course website to access these course offerings.
I also make myself available for speaking engagements, workshops, individual and group coaching.
Have you learned any interesting or important lessons due to the Covid-19 Crisis?
Very important. I learned that many times, the only way we will slow down long enough to assess where we are in life, is if something happens that forces us to use that time to question where we are, how we arrived at this place, and where we now headed. Taking the time we need for self-reflection is critical on a regular basis, if we are to move beyond where we are, and eliminate status quo. If we’re not learning, we’re not growing. If we’re not growing, we won’t be prepared for the next situation that tries to throw us off course, or to achieve the goals we have set for ourselves.
