Meet D. Watkins of Atlanta

Today we’d like to introduce you to D. Watkins

Hi D., thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
The Singer, Producer, And Songwriter known as ‘D. Watkins’ is a passionate artist that began to enjoy music at the age of 4 by listening to Artist such as Michael Jackson, Prince, Usher, Tupac and many others. D. Watkins performs original and cover songs from artist such as Drake, Chris Brown, Ginuwine and many others. D. Watkins coming from a musical family and attending ‘The School For Creative & Performing Arts is pre-destined for success. D. Watkins father Eric (E-Dubb) Watkins was in a R&B/Soul music group called ‘Sharp’ back in the 80’s. The R&B super group was signed to Elektra records in the same musical camp as Babyface and L.A Reid. With the passion of music that lied in his father, D. Watkins became fueled with musical passion and began working his craft at a early age, playing percussion instruments from 3rd grade to present and singing at various venues and events in different cities. D. Watkins writes his own songs and collaborates with various artist on beats and projects.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Well I would say it’s a little struggle trying to make R&B mainstream when Hip Hop is very popular right now. I wish we had more TV music platforms to expose our fans to our talent. And I would say for all the upcoming artist be great and the industry will have less bumps in the road for you, because its hard to say no to undeniable talent.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m a singer, songwriter, dancer, that is very passionate about creating music. I specialize in making R&B music, I just got into more afro beat pop vibes recently. I’m known for my big song Slow Wine that I performed at Hot 107.9 Birthday Bash in Atlanta. I’m most proud of my plaque with 500,000 streams on my song ‘ Back to my room’ off the Elevation album. What sets me apart from others is my unique voice and sound. Me and my producer ‘E-Dubb’ created a unique sound together that when you hear it, it’s distinct to my frequency.

Are there any apps, books, podcasts, blogs or other resources you think our readers should check out?
Yes I read a lot of self-help books, that has helped me on my journey of being an artist. I also look at a lot of successful artist interviews, that can definitely help you go a long way in the industry.
