Today we’d like to introduce you to Janora Davenport
Hi Janora, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I fell in love with braiding as a kid, watching how something as simple as creating braids could bond two people together as I watched this young lady braid her boyfriend’s hair. But it wasn’t until the summer before college that braiding truly became a part of my journey. My best friend and I spent that summer working together, taking on clients and bonding over our shared passion.
Once I got acclimated to college life at THEE Jackson State University , I began exploring different styles like extensions and box braids and became one of many hairstylists on campus. I also began to sell extensions and add Eventually, braiding became my only focus—it carried me through school, paying for all things a college girl needed and wanted. It was more than a hustle; it was my lifeline.
But somewhere along the way, my love for braiding started to fade. I was burnt out from constantly working without structure, juggling clients, and trying to keep up. I didn’t have the mindset of a CEO—I was operating like a hustler. I reached a point where I never wanted to pick up another comb again.
That was the turning point. I had to grow, shift my mindset, and learn what it truly meant to build a business—not just survive as a braider. Later after moving to Atlanta, I embraced the entrepreneur mentality, created systems, developed a vision for where my passion could take me and enrolled into cosmetology school.
I have recently successfully relaunched with a rebrand as I have completed cosmetology school for expansion of services with knowledge and service enhancement for clients. Additionally, creating a brand identity that resonates with our audience and to stand out in the market as a leader in hair care, environmental awareness, and education.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Absolutely not! *Inserts laugh* This road has had mountains, hills, valleys, rocky roads, narrow roads, you name it. The struggles that I have encountered have not just been from a business standpoint. In 2021, I became a mom and in the same year lost my father. That was a very challenging place to experience while being an entrepreneur. God has been my comforter for sure, but it was very heavy. I also enrolled in cosmetology school with the plan to finish at an exact time, and life had a different agenda for me. I experienced financial hardships, had to sacrifice time away from the salon to attend school and go after the vision and many people don’t understand how much of a sacrifice that really is when you’re a hairstylist. Other struggles that I have encountered, truthfully, have occurred because of me. I am very transparent on how I did not have the proper systems in place and was just winging it and that hurt my business in the long run and caused some suffering. I had to be accountable and realize that some hardships were because of me and not anyone or anything else. All of these struggles, and others that aren’t spoken of, have matured me in such a way that I’m more aware and responsible. I will not make those same mistakes again and will also not be afraid to speak up and say “I need help!”

Success is persistence, not giving up no matter what happens along the way. Success is vision with purpose, but not perfection. You may experience failure, but you are successful when you do not give up. When you continue to strive after the purpose and plan God has set on your life and are not moved by the obstacles, you are and will always be successful.
