Meet Ameerah Dechabert of amrhnky

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ameerah Dechabert

Ameerah, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Although music was my main passion as a little girl, I designed blogs and made video edits on my parents’ computer. So, when the county cut the piano program from my high school and asked me to change my art of choice, I chose creative writing.

By 10th grade, I picked up a camera and started exploring the world and capturing moments with friends. I started to express myself more through visual arts. That’s where it all began.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has been smooth. Thanks to God, things I wanted to experience and do, I was able to. The film industry itself is in an interesting place right now with many people looking for work that would otherwise be easy to find. The TV and film industry is taking some more navigating right now, but it has allowed me to tap back into my own projects, my own craft.

We’ve been impressed with amrhnky, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
amrhnky, is the separation between myself and my work. amrhnky, my business, specializes in creative direction, photography, and video production. My ideas and the intention behind them are what separates me from others. I am always doing something not just striving for excellence in production, but coming from a place of love, really. Books are open.

Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
My parents have always invested in and encouraged my pursuing of art as a career, and being an artist. That is something I am forever grateful for. My sisters are so cool, and I admire their journies, as well. I went to a great high school– Dekalb School of the Arts. I studied at thee Howard University, made great friends at both schools that relate and support and am blessed to be constantly inspired.

Naomi Sedgewick, during our times at Adolscent Content, really pushed me and looked out for me there. I was living in produjction bubbles at the time and was happy to be there. I also was in my senior year of college. I didn’t prioritize shooting as much at the time, but having someone that wanted to see me succeed and saw my potential really did a lot for me. I think I was getting a little complacent, but don’t regret soaking up the unique experience of being in the bubbles. Aeshia Devore Branch, is someone I interned for in high school. She always answers, and gives advice, but most importantly she is an example of purpose, dedication, and excellence. Thank you to Louise for looking out for me.
The list of people goes on.
