Today we’d like to introduce you to Cierra Starr
Hi Cierra , thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My journey began at the start of 2021 when I felt God calling me into flag ministry. I’ve always had a passion for dance, but this form of worship was something different — it became my connection to God and a powerful part of my healing journey.
Wanting to grow and learn, I began studying and training, taking classes to deepen my understanding of this beautiful ministry. I was blessed to become part of the Freedom Reign Flag Institute, where I had the honor of being instructed by the incredible founder, Y’shaundra Wright. Her guidance and teaching played a huge role in shaping me into the worshipper I am today.
As my confidence and calling grew, I stepped out in faith and launched my own ministry: Anointed with Purpose Dance Ministry. Through this ministry, I’ve had the blessing of traveling and ministering with flags, using movement to spread God’s love, power, and healing. Every wave of the flag is a declaration of victory, and every dance is a testimony of His grace.
This journey has been one of faith, growth, and purpose — and I’m just getting started.
Thank you, God, for choosing me. Thank you to everyone who has poured into my journey — and thank you to those who continue to support and believe in the vision.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The road has certainly not always been smooth. There have been times when the challenged felt overwhelming, whether it was facing doubts. But through it all God’s grace has been my anchor. There were times I wanted to give up, but I found strength in prayer, trusting that he would carry me through. I learned to rely on his guidance and trust that every step, even the tough ones, was part of his plan. In those moments of struggle, God has given me the perseverance to keep moving forward, and that has only deepened my faith and commitment to the flag ministry. It’s not always easy, but his strength has sustained me, and with his help, I keep pressing forward, knowing that this ministry is part of a bigger purpose.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
Flag ministry is unique in its use of creative expression as a form of worship. Unlike more traditional ministries, the act of using flags as a form of praise or prayer creates a tangible, visible representation of the worship experience. It allows the participants to engage physically, emotionally, and spiritually in a way that is dynamic and expressive. The movement of the flags during worship symbolizes the freedom we have in Christ. I am proud of the way God has used flag ministry to touch hearts and deepen worship for so many. It’s truly humbling to see how this ministry has brought people closer to God and given them a new way to express their faith.
Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
My advice for those starting out in flag ministry would be to start with a heart of worship and willingness to be led by God, its important to understand that flag ministry isn’t just about physical act of waving flags; it’s about using the movement as an expression of praise. Take time to pray and seek God’s guidance in how he wants to use you in ministry. Be patient with yourself as you learn and grow, and don’t be discouraged by challenges or setbacks. It’s a journey that requires faith, perseverance, and trust in God’s timing. Also, build community with other flag ministers or worshipers to encourage and support one another. Above all, remember that God is the one who equips, and his strength will carry you through every season.
Looking back, I wish I had known just how much the journey would stretch and refine me, both personally and spiritually. I didn’t fully realize how much patience and persistence would be required in the beginning. It can sometimes feel like progress is slow, especially when you’re learning to balance the physical movements with spiritual aspects of the ministry. I’ve come to see that is not just about the flags, but about surrendering to God and allowing him to lead every step.
