Check Out Micki Price-Havard’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Micki Price-Havard

Hi Micki, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
When I started practicing Pilates over 20 years ago, I was getting in shape for my impending wedding. I was in my late 20’s and wanted to maintain my svelte figure to a sure that I would fit in my wedding dress. My practice started at in my parents basement with VCR tapes and cable fitness the programs . When I branched out of my home practice and went in search of a Pilates studio, I found that they were quite homogenous . I didn’t find that the classes included a variety of fitness levels, shapes, races or even ages. There seemed to be an almost “Stepford” like quality to both the instructors and the practitioners. Everyone was twenty-something , slender and looked like a dancer, or model. And even though I fit in physically, something didn’t feel right about the environment. I popped around from studio to studio until I settled in with a small studio owned by an older woman who did not look like a Pilates magazine cover model. She was fit, a former dancer, and was very passionate about inclusivity in her classes. After taking Pilates for just over a year, she suggested that I become certified. I knew that when I became an instructor I wanted to to be inclusive and to share Pilates with a wide range of students. I taught in private studios for a few years and then got a job with my local Y when my son was a toddler. That is where I had the opportunity to teach a wide range of fitness levels, shapes, ages and sizes. I felt at home and connected with my students. My mission then and always will be to bring Pilates to as many people as possible; because Pilates is truly for everybody.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The road has been pretty smooth for me. There were some small hiccups along the way, but nothing to complain about.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a Pilates instructor with over 20 years of experience and I believe that Pilates is truly for everyone! In my book Pilates for Everyone, I provide variations and modifications for 50 Pilates exercises. I have an inclusive style of teaching- meeting students where they are.

Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
The most important lesson I have learned in my professional wellness journey, is that the best teacher is one that can teach all levels.
