Exploring Life & Business with Brett Bartel of Fenix Health Science, LLC.

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brett Bartel

Hi Brett , we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Thanks for talking with me again.

Last time, I shared how our company began—with the simple yet profound mission of formulating a dietary supplement to support my son’s nutritional needs after his diagnosis of dyslexia and ADHD. A few years have passed since then, and the journey of running a small business has brought new challenges, opportunities, and growth in ways I never imagined.

From the beginning, we knew our company had to be about more than just my family’s needs. We wanted a purpose that extended beyond our personal story—something bigger, something lasting. At a company retreat, we dug deep, brainstorming and defining who we are and what we stand for. We covered the walls with giant white posters, scribbling down our values, goals, and vision for the future. It wasn’t just an exercise in team building—it was a defining moment that brought us together with a shared sense of mission.

Mission Statement
Prioritizing nutrition on your mental health journey by providing nature’s building blocks to strengthen mental and emotional well-being.

Since we launched, the supplement industry addressing attention, focus, and memory has become increasingly crowded. Fenix sets itself apart by marketing to medical practitioners as well as direct to consumers, establishing itself as the go-to nutritional product for mental health. Our approach is simple yet profound: we focus on the actual molecules the brain uses to function optimally.

Vision Statement
Changing the Narrative
Continually Evolving
Nourishing the Mind

This past year, Fenix has embodied this vision by rebranding with a strong focus on personalized nutrition and pioneering the use of novel ingredients scientifically proven to have the highest absorption into the brain.

One of our most groundbreaking achievements has been bringing LYSOVETA® LPC to market. This unique form of omega-3—EPA and DHA bound to Lysophosphatidylcholine (LPC)—is the very form the brain absorbs. Traditional fish oil must undergo multiple metabolic steps before even a small fraction reaches the brain; much of it is diverted to the heart, muscles, or fat stores. But LPC-DHA and LPC-EPA bypass those steps and are transported directly into the brain, delivering up to six times higher absorption than fish oil. (Sugasini Study, 2019)

Since our launch, we’ve received inquiries from all over the world—researchers interested in clinical trials, practitioners eager to understand its potential, and individuals concerned about their cognitive health. One of the most significant areas of interest has been from those with the APOE4 allele, a genetic variant associated with increased risk of cognitive decline.

But getting to this point didn’t happen overnight. LYSOVETA® LPC wasn’t handed to us on a silver platter. It took years of dedication, research, and a relentless commitment to our core values.

From the very beginning, we committed to using only the most bioavailable, science-backed ingredients in our products. When we first formulated Accentrate, we believed we had included the most effective omega-3s for brain health. But when we discovered the Sugasini study in 2020, we knew we had to evolve. Staying true to our principle of Continually Evolving, we made the decision to reformulate Accentrate® to include LPC.

We wouldn’t make such a huge change if we didn’t think it was important enough. I would not be surprised if 10 years from now Lysoveta® LPC is the only omega-3 supplement recommended for mental health

Along the way, we listened. We gathered feedback from hundreds of pediatricians, neurologists, psychiatrists, and thousands of customers. While many thrived on our all-in-one approach, we realized that nutrition is deeply personal. Some people have unique sensitivities that made Accentrate® less ideal for them, even if they wanted its benefits.

So, as we reworked Accentrate® with LYSOVETA®, we took it a step further—we separated it into its core components: omega-3 fatty acids, vitamins, and minerals. This new approach allows for personalized nutrition, where people can select only what they need, rather than paying for nutrients that aren’t essential to them. It also ensures premium-quality ingredients remain accessible in a cost-effective way.

Our journey started with one goal: to improve my son’s mental health through better nutrition. Today, that mission has grown into something much bigger—a commitment to pioneering brain-focused nutrition and reshaping how we approach mental well-being. And this is just the beginning.

Sugasini, D. “Enrichment of brain docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) is highly dependent upon the molecular carrier of dietary DHA: Lysophosphatidylcholine is more efficient than either phosphatidylcholine or triacylglycerol.” J. Nutr. Biochem. 2019, 74, 108231.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
One of the biggest challenges we’ve faced has been communicating the importance of LYSOVETA® to our existing customers—many of whom already loved their current supplements. Change is difficult, especially when people have found something that works for them. Convincing customers to switch to a new formulation required educating them on why LPC is the superior form of omega-3 for brain health. We had to make the case that, while their old products were good, these new ones are even better—providing significantly higher absorption and delivering nutrients more efficiently to the brain. It’s been a process of re-engaging our loyal customers, helping them understand the science, and demonstrating that switching is truly in their best interest.

Another major challenge has been essentially starting from scratch with a new product lineup. With our rebrand, we launched eight new products—none of which had existing testimonials or reviews on our website or Amazon. Despite having a large customer base and a wealth of positive reviews on our old formulations, our new products entered the market with no established credibility. Building that trust again has been daunting, as reviews and testimonials play a crucial role in consumer confidence. We’re working hard to encourage early adopters to share their experiences and provide social proof for others considering our products. In some ways, it feels like launching a brand-new company, but we know that the strength of our science and the loyalty of our community will help us bridge this transition successfully.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Founded in 2017, Fenix Health Science creates nutritional supplements specifically formulated to support cognitive and emotional function for children and adults.

I am the Chief Science Officer, but as a small business owner, a lot of the business aspects fall on me: budgeting, management, etc.

We are definitely most proud that we were the first to have LYSOVETA(R) LPC in Accentrate(R). The potential for LYSOVETA(R) is huge. Fenix won’t always be the only selling it and larger market players will likely have a greater commercial impact, but it’s an honor to help bring this nutrient to people who really need it.

We love surprises, fun facts and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
I am such a believer in LYSOVETA® LPC, I drove to another state to be at our packaging facility to watch it get bottled and was the first person in the United States to take Accentrate® Omega with Lysoveta®.

And the benefit I noticed first, was also surprising … and a little too personal for a public interview. Let’s just say it supports mood.
