Success rarely comes without obstacles, and my journey has been anything but smooth. Being raised by two felon parents meant I had to navigate life without a traditional roadmap for success. I was a first-generation college student at one of the toughest engineering schools in the country, Georgia Institute of Technology, where I often felt like I was carrying the weight of my entire family’s future on my shoulders.
After graduating, I spent over 15 years in corporate America, excelling in industrial systems engineering. While it provided stability, I always knew I wanted more—financial freedom, ownership, and the ability to create something meaningful on my own terms. The transition from a structured corporate environment to full-time entrepreneurship was one of the biggest challenges I’ve faced. I had to unlearn the employee mindset, take risks, and build something from the ground up without a safety net.
Personally, I’ve also faced the struggles of navigating a marriage that ended, raising four children, and balancing motherhood with entrepreneurship. There were times when I questioned whether I could handle it all—whether I could be the present parent I wanted to be while growing a brand that reflected my passion for holistic beauty and wellness.
Funding my business without relying on outside investors or loans was another major hurdle. I had to be strategic, resourceful, and resilient, ensuring that every move I made was setting me up for long-term success. That meant making sacrifices, learning the ins and outs of business credit, and perfecting the art of reinvention.
Despite the challenges, I wouldn’t change a thing. Every obstacle strengthened me, every setback taught me resilience, and every challenge forced me to evolve. Today, as I expand Shirmal Beauty and introduce high-end wellness solutions like my Bawdy Bag Tea Baths, I see my journey reflected in the people I serve—high achievers, go-getters, and individuals who know that true transformation comes from pushing through the hard moments and investing in themselves.

Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
One thing most people might not know about me is that I’ve always been a bit of a mad scientist at heart. From a young age, I couldn’t resist experimenting with things around the house like the time I accidentally blew up my mom’s microwave while mixing the particles from a diaper with vinegar! That natural curiosity, that desire to understand how things work, has always been part of who I am.
